The great town of Lekki came alive on Sunday as residents, indigenes, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the annual Ojude Oba Onilekki 2026 festival in honour of the Onilekki of Lekki Kingdom, Oba Liasim Olumuyiwa Ogunbekun.

The colourful cultural festival attracted traditional chiefs, community leaders, youth groups, cultural enthusiasts, and distinguished guests from within and outside the community, all united in celebrating the rich traditions, customs, and heritage of the Lekki people.

Representing the Executive Arm of the Lekki Local Council Development Area, the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, joined other dignitaries in paying homage to the revered monarch and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural values that continue to strengthen the identity of the community.

The event featured a variety of cultural attractions, including traditional music, dance performances, colourful displays, and symbolic processions that highlighted the history, pride, and communal spirit of the Lekki Kingdom. Residents and stakeholders also used the occasion to foster unity, celebrate shared values, and honour the institution of traditional leadership.

Speaking on the significance of the festival, Kasali described culture as a vital tool for preserving identity, promoting unity, and driving community development. He commended the organisers and the royal palace for sustaining a tradition that continues to connect generations while showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Lekki to a broader audience.

The celebration further underscored the importance of preserving indigenous traditions and reaffirmed the enduring role of traditional institutions in promoting peace, unity, and development within the community.
