Residents of Igbo Oluwo community in Ikorodu have applauded the Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Babajimi Benson, following the flag-off of the long-awaited road construction in the area.

Speaking at the ceremony, Benson thanked the people for their continued support and confidence in his leadership over the years. He acknowledged that the road had remained unconstructed despite his previous elections into office and apologised to residents for the delay.

The lawmaker assured the community that the wait was finally over as construction work was set to commence. He also urged residents to sustain their support and increase voter turnout ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that Ikorodu has consistently recorded one of the highest voting figures in Lagos State and across Nigeria.

He noted that he appreciated the support of residents over the years, acknowledged the delay in executing the road project since his first election, and expressed regret over it, while assuring that the flag-off marked the beginning of its construction. He further called on the community to continue supporting his representation and work towards increasing voter participation in 2027.

The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Adedayo Ladega, commended Benson for his unwavering commitment to the development of communities across the constituency.

Ladega described the federal lawmaker as a man of integrity who consistently delivers on his promises, adding that the Igbo Oluwo road construction was another demonstration of his dedication to the welfare of the people.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Igbo Oluwo Community Development Association (CDA) recalled that Benson had promised the community its turn for road construction during the commissioning of Erunwen Road. He expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for fulfilling that promise and bringing the project to reality.

The Youth President of Igbo Oluwo, Shola Sanusi, expressed joy on behalf of young people and residents of the community, describing the road construction as a dream come true.

According to him, the community had eagerly anticipated the project for years and did not expect it to commence this year. While appreciating Benson for the intervention, he appealed for additional support in the areas of healthcare and youth empowerment.

The event attracted community leaders, residents, party faithful, and stakeholders, who praised the lawmaker for responding to the infrastructural needs of the community and fulfilling his commitment to the people of Igbo Oluwo.
