Chairman of the Southern Senators Forum and Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, on Thursday commissioned 4.6-kilometre Takatuku-Dandamu Road in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State, commending Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for his impressive performance in office and praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening the financial capacity of states to undertake impactful projects.
The road commissioning formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.
Speaking at the event where he served as Chairman of the occasion, Senator Abiru described the project as a symbol of purposeful leadership and people-centred governance, noting that development is best measured by its impact on the lives of ordinary citizens.
He lauded Governor Ahmed Aliyu for recording remarkable achievements across critical sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, water supply, housing, youth empowerment and security, stressing that the governor had demonstrated that he is a worthy successor to former Governor and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
According to the Lagos East lawmaker, the Takatuku-Dandamu Road, constructed under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) with support from the World Bank, the French Development Agency and the Federal Government, would enhance rural connectivity, facilitate the evacuation of agricultural produce, reduce transportation costs and improve access to schools, healthcare facilities and markets for residents of Bodinga Local Government Area and adjoining communities.
Senator Abiru further hailed President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the administration had created an enabling environment for development through bold economic reforms and increased fiscal support to sub-national governments.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown uncommon courage and statesmanship in undertaking reforms aimed at repositioning the economy. More importantly, his administration has enhanced the financial capacity of states through improved revenue streams and increased allocations, thereby empowering governors to embark on ambitious developmental projects.
“The impact is becoming increasingly visible across the country. Governors now possess greater capacity to invest in roads, healthcare, education, agriculture and social infrastructure. Sokoto State, under the able leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has effectively leveraged these opportunities to deliver tangible dividends of democracy to the people,” he said.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions commended Governor Aliyu for prudent management of resources, transparency and accountability, stressing that leadership should be judged by the number of lives positively impacted.
The lawmaker urged the people of Sokoto State to continue to support the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, saying the achievements recorded in the last three years should inspire greater confidence in the government.
Abiru also called on residents to sustain their support for President Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Aliyu to enable them consolidate ongoing developmental strides and deepen the delivery of democratic dividends.
Abiru also paid glowing tribute to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, for his fatherly guidance, moral authority and steadfast commitment to peace, unity and national cohesion, describing him as a stabilising force whose influence extends beyond Sokoto State.
He also acknowledged the leadership and mentorship of Senator Wamakko, saying his visionary leadership laid the foundation upon which the current administration is consolidating.
The ceremony attracted top government officials, traditional rulers, party leaders, community stakeholders and supporters of the APC from across Sokoto State.
