Oba Bashiru Aremu Sotonwa, the Sekumade of Ipakodo Kingdom, formally unveiled the official Ankara for the 2024 Ipakodo Day celebrations. The Ankara is available for purchase at 3000 Naira only for four yards.

In his speech, Oba Bashiru Sotonwa the Sekumade of Ipakodo Kingdom expressed pride and elation at the growth and success of the Annual Ipakodo Day celebrations, which have become the foremost community event in Ikorodu West LCDA. He thanked Almighty God for the opportunity to make history as the first Sekumade to initiate and host the celebrations.

Oba Sotonwa appreciated the support of the people of Ipakodo Kingdom, Royal families, indigenes, residents, and corporate citizens. He commended the Ipakodo Development Association (IDA) for their efforts in organizing the celebrations and appealed for continued collaboration to make the 2024 edition more memorable.

The Sekumade extended an invitation to Ipakodo sons and daughters in diaspora to attend the celebrations and assured distinguished guests and government functionaries of a culturally-rich experience.

He concluded with the words of Yoruba, “ajeji owo kan ko gbe’ru d’ori” (one hand cannot comfortably lift a heavy load), emphasizing the need for collective effort to build the community of their dreams.

The 2024 Ipakodo Day celebrations will take place from September 30 to October 6, featuring various activities.

Giving his welcome address earlier, Prince Olasunkanmi Shotonwa, Chairman of IDA, congratulated the community on the new year, stating that the celebration of Ipakodo Day marks the beginning of a new year for the kingdom. He expressed gratitude to the people of Ipakodo for their support and collaboration, which has led to the growth and recognition of the community event.

Shotonwa acknowledged the contributions of various groups, including the Market Men/Women, Artisans, Transporters, Ipakodo Youths, Hausa Community, Ndigbo, and others.

He also thanked the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon Sulaiman Kazeem Olanrewaju (SKO), the Former Chairman Hon. Jumoke Jimbo, Royal Families, Corporate Bodies, and others for their support.

The chairman gave a rundown of the activities for the week-long annual celebrations, which include:

– DAY 2: Tuesday, October 1 – Free Medical Tests & Treatments
– DAY 3: Wednesday, October 2 – Ipakodo Youths & Senior Citizens’ Day
– DAY 4: Thursday, October 3 – Market Men/Women Artisan’s & Ijoko Agba Day
– DAY 5: Friday, October 4 – Jumat Service
– DAY 6: Saturday, October 5 – Grand Finale & Reception
– DAY 7: Sunday, October 6 – Church Thanksgiving Service

Shotonwa called on Ipakodo sons and daughters to participate in all the activities and contribute to the growth and development of the community.

Lisa of Ipakodo Kingdom, called on the organizing committee of the Ipakodo Day celebrations to learn from the mistakes of last year’s event and put in more effort to make this year’s edition a success.
