
Nigeria First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu highlighted the importance of women leading the Food Security Campaign in Nigeria. She showcased her vegetable garden at the State House Residence to encourage first-time women farmers to participate in the Every Home A Garden Competition. The first lady who has planted 7 vegetables, consisting of spinach, water leaf, bitter leaf, Ewedu, lemon grass, scent leaf and Okro.
Senator Tinubu emphasized the significance of personal contributions towards solving problems and set an example by planting her own garden.
In her address, the First Lady urged women farmers nationwide to engage in the competition by establishing gardens in their homes to ensure an adequate food supply for themselves and their communities.
She emphasized the medicinal benefits of the vegetables and the role of smart gardening in promoting communal living and supporting the government’s food security initiatives. Notable figures such as the Wife of Imo State governor and the Wife of the Minister of State for Defence were present to witness the garden’s demonstration.
The Every Home A Garden Competition targets first-time women farmers across Nigeria, requiring participants to submit a 30-second video detailing their garden by September 25, 2024, to the Office of the Wives of the State Government. The winner of the competition stands to receive a prize of N25 million naira, further incentivizing women to actively engage in agricultural activities for food security purposes.
