It was a mammoth gathering from all walks of life yesterday as the popular Ita Elewa Sports Center, now renamed Modupe Oshikoya Center played host to supporters of the Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Toyin Gafar ‘Bolowotan’, ahead of his declaration for the Lagos State House of Assembly Seat for Ikorodu Constituency 1.
The event put together by the Renewed Hope Independent Group was tagged “Launch of Its Solidarity Group and Easter Hangout with Hon. Gafar Oluwatoyin Bolowotan”. The solidarity group was led by Mr Olasunkanmi Osinowo and Mr Okemati Azeez as the Secretary.
According to the organizers, the solidarity group was put together as a show of support for the ambition of Bolowotan to take over the Ikorodu Constituency 1 seat come 2023. It stated that the voluntary mobilization of friends and fans of Bolowotan was informed by his generosity, impactful contribution to the growth of Ikorodu and his having the capacity to effectively represent the people in the hollow chambers of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Bolowotan it was believed through his position as the DG of the Sports Commission has influenced landmark infrastructure, appointments and job opportunities for teeming youths in Ikorodu Division.
While appreciating his supporters for turning out despite the short notice at the event, the DG of Lagos State Sports Commission, Toyin Gafaar ‘Bolowotan’, cleared the air that the event was not the official flag off of his campaign but a generous support by the Solidarity Group which he is grateful for.
He noted that the endorsement by the solidarity group is more like a notification to the electorate that he is entering the race for the Ikorodu Constituency 1 seat at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“One of our support groups, the RenewedHope Independent Campaign Group hosted us to an Easter hangout as well as a solidarity support for our aspiration to represent the good people of Ikorodu Constituency 1, at the Lagos State House of Assembly. I specially appreciate all executives and members of the RICG and everyone who showed support.
“Special thanks to my brother, Prince Yomi Sopitan (Executive Assistant to Mr Governor on Maritime Matters), Alhaji Olawale Amusa (CEO of Homat Group of Schools and President of Association of Private Schools), our mother, Mrs Olufunmi Oshinowo Bashorun, Dr. ABiodun Fatai-Abatan, Dr. Wole Ajifowoke, Educay Group and our amazing Team Renewed Hope,” he said in his appreciation message.
He went further to state that when the time is ripe, all his supporters and volunteer groups will be invited to the official declaration.
“Today (yesterday) is a special day for our aspiration and I cannot thank you all enough for the support. Indeed, when the time is right, we shall have our official declaration where all our teeming supporters and volunteer groups would be invited.”
