Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots economic development with a strategic engagement meeting between the council leadership and stakeholders in the local fishing sector.
The meeting, held at the Lekki LCDA Secretariat and convened by the Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), brought together fishermen, market women, and key players in the fishing value chain, alongside top council officials including the Supervisor for Agriculture, Head of Department of Agriculture, councillors, and supervisors.
The interactive session provided an avenue for stakeholders to voice their concerns and expectations. Fishermen and traders highlighted key challenges affecting their livelihoods, including limited access to modern fishing equipment and the need for improved market infrastructure to boost sales and profitability.
Responding to the issues raised, Kasali assured participants of the council’s readiness to support their operations and enhance their productivity.
He disclosed that fishing equipment already procured by the council would soon be distributed to beneficiaries as part of efforts to modernize the sector.
The Chairman also announced plans for the establishment of a standard market in Otolu, aimed at strengthening commercial activities and creating better income opportunities for residents involved in the fishing business.
He stressed that growing the local economy remains a central focus of his administration, noting that sustained engagement with grassroots stakeholders is critical to achieving meaningful and inclusive development.
The engagement, according to the council, underscores its broader agenda to empower residents, preserve traditional occupations, and build a more prosperous and inclusive Lekki community.
