
The Ikorodu Town Hall was filled with political stakeholders, community leaders, youths, market men and women, party faithful, and residents on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, as the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson, formally declared his intention to seek another term in office.
The declaration ceremony attracted prominent personalities from across Lagos State and the Ikorodu Division, turning the event into a major political gathering as supporters trooped out in large numbers to reaffirm their support for the federal lawmaker. Benson’s tenure has been widely associated with infrastructural development, youth empowerment, and community-based projects within the constituency.
Dignitaries present at the event included Governance Advisory Council (GAC) chieftain Abiodun Ogunleye; Nurudeen Yekini Agbaje; Kaoli Olusanya; Senator Tokunbo Abiru; the Iyaloja of Ikorodu Division, Isikalu Busola; Nollywood actress Remi Surutu; Aro Moshood Abiodun; Gbolahan Ogunleye; local government chairmen across the Ikorodu Division; youth organisations; women groups; and several political associates.
Addressing the gathering, Benson thanked the people of Ikorodu for their unwavering support over the years, noting that the confidence reposed in him has continued to inspire impactful representation at the National Assembly.
He said his decision to seek re-election was driven by the need to consolidate on ongoing developmental projects and programmes across the constituency. Benson emphasised that his representation has remained focused on people-oriented policies and grassroots development aimed at improving the standard of living of residents.
The lawmaker pledged to continue operating on the principles of accountability, sustainability, transparency, and credibility if re-elected, adding that governance must remain centred on service to the people. He assured constituents that more developmental projects would be facilitated to further transform Ikorodu Division.
Supporters at the event highlighted several projects facilitated by the lawmaker, including road rehabilitation, educational support programmes, youth and women empowerment initiatives, solar-powered streetlight installations, employment opportunities, health interventions, and palliative distributions aimed at easing economic challenges.
In his remarks, Senator Tokunbo Abiru described Benson as a committed and result-oriented representative whose contributions have positively impacted lives across the constituency. He commended the lawmaker for what he termed quality representation and visible developmental strides.
Also speaking, Nurudeen Yekini Agbaje praised Benson for consistently placing Ikorodu’s interests above personal gains, noting that his interventions in road construction, job creation, youth empowerment, solar streetlights, and social welfare have brought government closer to the grassroots.
Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Abiodun Ogunleye, also endorsed Benson’s re-election bid, describing him as an experienced politician committed to the continued growth and development of Ikorodu Division. He noted that continuity would enable the constituency to attract more projects and programmes.
Prince Abdul-Lateef Adedayo Ladega, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, described Rep. Babajimi Benson as a mentor and a leader who has continued to guide and support them effectively through purposeful leadership and quality representation.
Ladega commended Benson’s numerous achievements, particularly in the areas of road infrastructure, empowerment programmes, education, and the solar power initiative aimed at providing light to homes across communities.
According to the council chairman, the federal lawmaker’s commitment to grassroots development and people-oriented projects has continued to earn him widespread support and admiration from residents.
He stated that Rep. Benson deserves another term in office to enable him continue the good work and sustain the developmental projects already benefiting the people of Ikorodu Division.
Several Dignitaries at the gathering equally endorsed the lawmaker’s aspiration, expressing confidence in his ability to continue delivering effective representation and sustainable development for the people of Ikorodu.
The atmosphere at the venue was vibrant as supporters chanted solidarity songs and applauded the declaration speech. Youth groups, women associations, community leaders, and party members took turns to express appreciation for Benson’s contributions to the socio-economic growth of the constituency.
