In a significant development, Taiwo Salvador has been appointed as the Social Secretary of the Brazilian Descendants Association, Lagos.
Kola Peregrino took the oath of office as the President of the association, while other executives, including Ms. Taiwo Lolade Salvador, also assumed their respective roles. The ceremony marked a new chapter in the association’s history, as it continues to promote the interests and welfare of Brazilian descendants in Lagos.
The Brazilian Descendants Association is a community of individuals who are descended from the returnees who came back to Nigeria after emancipation and freedom. Their great-great-grandfathers returned to Nigeria in 1856 and were granted a community domain, where they settled after being freed from slavery.
The association has been actively involved in various initiatives, including the promotion of the Portuguese language and culture. In 2022, the association launched a Portuguese language class in Lagos, in conjunction with the Federative Republic of Brazil. The class aimed to promote the Portuguese language and provide young people with a world-class opportunity.
