In an effort to tackle the menace of flooding in Ibeju/Lekki Area,the Office of Drainage Services,
Ministry of Environment and Water Resources today Thursday,1st of February,2024 presented the proposed Drainage Master Plan at a stakeholders parley in the Council Secretariat in Igando Oloja . Both Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Lekki Local Council Development Area Stakeholders were present at the event .

The Lagos State Government under its able Mr.Governor,His Excellency,Mr.Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu has approved the design and construction of several secondary collectors (52) and 11 mobile pumps for the two Council areas to allow free flow of storm water and prevent flooding . This was presented by the consultants from the Ministry.

In addition , the Director and Head of Planning and Designs,Engr. Ibilola who led the team reiterated the importance of drainages in urban and rural planning and congratulated the citizens of the Councils for being among the priority areas in the entire state . He also informed them that the Department is more than ever ready to serve their needs and used the occasion to introduce other officials of the Ministry who have been designated to attend to various needs of the people.

In response,the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa mentioned that the absence of drains in the Ibeju-Lekki axis is responsible for the perennial flooding experienced lately. He, therefore, applaud the magnanimity of Mr.Governor and the Water Resources Ministry for their timely interventions by approving a Drainage Master Plan for the Local Government and the Local Council Development Area .

Hon.Olowa also appealed to the Ministry to increase the number of collector drains in the master plan to cater for future needs as the council areas are both experiencing massive growth in population .

Speaking further , Hon Olowa observed that some areas listed in the documents are not within Ibeju- Lekki and advised that corrections be made before final submission for contract awards .

For the people of Ibeju- Lekki , the Mayor expressed his appreciation for their support and for coming out to attend this all important meeting and also asked for more support in the seamless execution of the Drainage Master Plan.

Also speaking at the occasion was the Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services,Lekki LCDA,Hon. Adeleke Olabanjo who represented the Executive Chairman of Lekki.In his submission,he advised the Contractors to always solicit the support of indigenes who knows the terrain and can give adequate information to aid data capture and information gathering . He also observed that communities in Lekki Local Council Development Area were not listed and appealed for their inclusion.

The Team of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources encouraged residence to channel their needs and complaints to the Ministry.
