Ahead of May 12 Gathering
The Liaison Council of the Eminent Persons of Ikorodu Division (EPID) has formally unveiled detailed plans for the 2026 Ikorodu Division General Assembly, following a pre-event press conference held at the Gbadamosi Hall of the Ikorodu Town Hall in Ikorodu.
The press briefing, which brought together journalists, community leaders and stakeholders, was anchored by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Prince Adesegun Olusola Ogunlewe.
He provided insights into the objectives, expectations and significance of the forthcoming General Assembly scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
In his address, Prince Ogunlewe described the annual assembly as a strategic platform designed to foster dialogue, unity and development across Ikorodu Division.
He noted that the event will serve as an avenue to critically assess the division’s progress while charting a clear path for future growth.
The press conference witnessed the presence of several prominent personalities, including Alhaji Faruk Giwa, Mrs O.O.T Benson, Alhaja (Mrs) Kudirat O. Lamina, Princess Bimisade A. Ladega, Dr Muftau Tunde Olowo-Okere, and Hon. Showemimo Kazeem A., who serves as the Publicity Secretary of the body. Staff of the Town Hall as well as members of the media were also in attendance.
Speaking further, the organisers explained that the briefing was convened to sensitise the public and generate awareness ahead of the General Assembly and Awards ceremony. EPID reiterated that it remains a non-political, non-religious and non-governmental organisation made up of royal fathers, high chiefs and distinguished indigenes committed to the advancement of Ikorodu Division.
The Liaison Council emphasised that the organisation plays a vital role in monitoring developmental projects, advocating for the collective interests of the division, recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to society, and ensuring that Ikorodu is not sidelined in terms of development and allocation of resources at all levels of government.
According to the organisers, the 2026 General Assembly will be held under the theme: “Diversity and Inclusive Governance in a Democratic Dispensation: Setting Boundaries and Weighing the Pros and Cons.” The theme, they explained, reflects the need for inclusive leadership and balanced governance in a democratic setting, especially in a rapidly growing and diverse division like Ikorodu.
The event is expected to attract a wide range of participants, including traditional rulers, technocrats, political office holders, representatives of corporate organisations, market leaders, social clubs, and Community Development Associations (CDAs).
Discussions at the gathering will centre on governance, infrastructure, economic growth and social development within the division.
Highlighting its broader objectives, EPID stated that it aims to reposition Ikorodu Division politically, infrastructurally and socio-economically.
The organisation also seeks to promote career and employment opportunities for residents, while strengthening engagement with government institutions and private sector players to improve the overall wellbeing of the people.
The council further revealed that several recommendations from the 2024 edition of the General Assembly have begun to yield results and are currently being pursued.
Among these is the proposed organisation of an annual boat regatta and aquatic festivals, an initiative aimed at boosting tourism and showcasing the cultural heritage of Ikorodu Division.
Another key development is the planned establishment of a Military Hospital and a Command Secondary School within the 174 Battalion in Odogunyan, a proposal said to have been adopted for implementation by Hon. Babajimi Benson.
Additionally, efforts are ongoing toward the regeneration and proper planning of traditional and unplanned settlements across major towns in the division.
Organisers assured that a comprehensive breakdown of these projects, including timelines and expected impacts, will be presented during the General Assembly.
Members of the public, stakeholders and residents of Ikorodu Division have been formally invited to attend the 2026 Ikorodu Division General Assembly.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Ikorodu Ultra-Modern Town Hall on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, by 11:00 a.m., where critical discussions and decisions shaping the future of the division are expected to take centre stage.
