Kosofe Local Government on Thursday, April 23, 2026, convened a high-level stakeholders’ engagement, sensitization and advocacy programme ahead of the reintroduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise. The event, held at the council secretariat in Ogudu-Ojota, drew participation from a broad spectrum of community leaders and interest groups.
Hon. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Oluwole Shosanya, in his address, set the tone for the engagement by commending Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for reviving the monthly environmental sanitation initiative.
He reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, noting that the reintroduction of the sanitation exercise is a strategic move to prevent disease outbreaks, improve public health and ensure a safer, cleaner and more habitable Kosofe.
He urged stakeholders to take the message back to their various communities and mobilize residents for active participation. Residents were also encouraged to observe the sanitation exercise every designated day from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. as part of their civic responsibility.
The engagement brought together key stakeholders across the local government, including the Legislative Arm, religious leaders led by the Chief Imam and Christian pastors, traditional rulers such as the Bale of Oworo, His Royal Majesty Odufa, the Bale of Ojota and the Bale of Ifako. Also present were the Iyaloja and Babaloja of Kosofe, CDC Chairman, artisans, representatives of LASCOTA, youth leaders, members of the Physically Challenged Association, council management team, supervisors, special advisers and other community leaders.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Adekoya Moses, emphasized that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility and a reflection of the community’s attitude toward healthy living.
He noted that the absence of the sanitation exercise in recent years contributed to blocked drainages, flooding and the spread of preventable diseases.
He announced that the Lagos State Government has approved the resumption of the exercise beginning Saturday, April 25, 2026, and urged residents to support and comply fully.
He also commended the Executive Chairman for his commitment to environmental sustainability and development in Kosofe.
Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Femi Oyeshile, advised residents to comply with sanitation regulations and cooperate with authorities, stressing that ignorance of the law would not be accepted as an excuse.
Speaking at the event, the CDC Chairman, Hon. Babatunde, stressed the significance of the initiative, lamenting the level of environmental negligence within some communities.
He disclosed that some houses had previously been sealed due to unhygienic practices and warned that poor sanitation could lead to disease outbreaks.
He urged residents to begin immediate clean-up efforts ahead of the commencement date.
The Head of Department for Environmental Services and Sanitation Law Enforcement, Mrs. Nurat, highlighted the health benefits of environmental hygiene and educated stakeholders on proper sanitation practices.
The Iyaloja of Kosofe offered prayers for the Executive Chairman and encouraged all stakeholders to support the initiative for the collective good of the community.
The engagement ended with a strong call for collaboration between government and residents to ensure a cleaner, healthier and safer Kosofe Local Government.
