Healthcare delivery in Imota received a major boost on Monday, March 2, 2026, as the Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, facilitated and presented a brand new ambulance to General Hospital Imota.
The presentation ceremony, held within the hospital premises, drew traditional rulers, political leaders, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders in what many described as another landmark intervention in the health sector by the federal lawmaker.
Rep. Benson was represented at the event by the Director-General of the iCare Foundation, Mayor Deen Sanwoola, who conveyed the lawmaker’s commitment to strengthening access to quality healthcare services across Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
In a symbolic and culturally significant gesture, the Paramount Ruler of Imota Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare-Agoro, Olufoworesete II, the Ranodu of Imota, officially handed over the ambulance to the management of the hospital, underscoring the importance of the intervention to the community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Adenike Omosun, Medical Director of General Hospital Imota, expressed profound appreciation to Rep. Babajimi Benson for what she described as a life-saving intervention.
“Today, I express my profound gratitude for a gift that goes beyond equipment – a gift that represents life, speed, and hope,” she stated.
On behalf of the management and entire team of the hospital, Dr. Omosun extended heartfelt appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the Health Service Commission (HSCA), while specially thanking Rep. Benson for the generous donation of the ambulance.
“This is not just a vehicle; it is a lifeline. It means faster emergency response, improved patient transfer, and greater assurance for families who depend on us in critical moments,” she added.
She noted that the donation reinforces what purposeful leadership should represent – responsive, compassionate, and community-driven – and assured residents that the hospital would not take the support for granted, pledging continued dedication to delivering quality and accessible healthcare to Imota and surrounding communities.
Also present at the event were the Vice Chairman of Imota LCDA, Princess Abisoye Oredoyin, alongside other key community stakeholders who commended the lawmaker for his sustained investment in the health sector.
Observers were quick to note that this is not the first time General Hospital Imota has benefited from Rep. Benson’s intervention. It is on record that his facilitation of the ultramodern edifice that now houses the hospital was instrumental in its upgrade to a full-fledged General Hospital – a milestone achieved after years of agitation by residents who had long yearned for a comprehensive secondary healthcare facility within the community.
Beyond the ambulance donation, Rep. Benson is currently facilitating the construction of a diagnostic centre within the hospital environment, further positioning the facility to deliver improved medical services and reduce referrals outside the community.
Speaking on behalf of the lawmaker, Mayor Deen Sanwoola reiterated that Rep. Benson remains deeply committed to healthcare development as a critical pillar of human capital advancement.
According to him, access to timely emergency response services can mean the difference between life and death, and the ambulance is part of a broader vision to ensure that residents of Imota and surrounding communities receive prompt and efficient medical attention.
The presentation ceremony concluded with prayers and commendations for Rep. Benson, as community leaders described the intervention as another testament to leadership that prioritises tangible impact over rhetoric.
With the addition of the new ambulance, General Hospital Imota is now better equipped to respond to emergencies, improve patient mobility, and strengthen healthcare service delivery – reinforcing Rep. Babajimi Benson’s track record of sustained and transformative interventions in Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
