Rep. Babajimi Benson, Member of the House of Representatives, Ikorodu Federal Constituency, has empowered 600 market men and women across Ikorodu Division with ₦50,000 each through his iCare Foundation, as part of sustained efforts to strengthen grassroots businesses and support local traders.

The disbursement, which covered Ikorodu Central, Ikorodu North, Ikorodu West, Igbogbo-Baiyeku, and Imota LGAs, is aimed at boosting trading capital, easing business constraints, and enhancing the economic stability of small-scale traders across the division.

Market leaders across Ikorodu Division have expressed appreciation for the empowerment programme, describing it as a timely and far-reaching intervention that directly impacts the trading community.

Alhaja Oritoke Fehintola, Iya Oloja Oluwo Idikan, speaking on behalf of the Iya Oloja General of Ikorodu Division, Dcns Busola Isikalu, commended the initiative, noting that it was well received across all markets in the division.

She added that the financial support would help traders restock goods, stabilize daily operations, and improve income flow, especially in a challenging economic environment.

According to her, the consistency of such interventions has strengthened confidence among market men and women, who see the programme as a practical form of support rather than a one-off initiative.

Also speaking, Alhaja Oluwatoyin, leader of fruit sellers in the division, described the empowerment as “unprecedented,” noting that it stands out in terms of reach and direct impact on grassroots traders.

She explained that many beneficiaries would use the funds to expand their inventory and sustain their businesses amid rising costs.

She further acknowledged what she described as a pattern of development-oriented representation, referencing ongoing infrastructural and community-focused projects across the constituency.

According to her, the latest financial support reinforces the belief among traders that their needs remain a priority, and she expressed optimism that such interventions would continue to strengthen local commerce across Ikorodu Division.
