Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to officially launch the Omi Eko Project, a landmark initiative poised to transform water transportation in Lagos on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Five Cowries Terminal in Falomo.

Designed as part of the state’s broader push for sustainable urban mobility and smart city development, the Omi Eko Project introduces an advanced, eco-friendly water transport system aimed at reducing traffic congestion and cutting commute times across the metropolis.

At the heart of the initiative is the deployment of over 78 high-capacity electric ferries, along with intelligent ferry terminals, digital ticketing systems, and enhanced safety infrastructure. These components are expected to significantly improve the reliability, efficiency, and environmental footprint of commuting in Lagos.

The launch event will include keynote addresses, a virtual overview of the project, and a ceremonial unveiling led by Governor Sanwo-Olu. The choice of Five Cowries Terminal, a key intermodal transport hub linking land and water transit is symbolic of the state’s integrated approach, as envisioned in the Lagos Urban Mobility Plan.
