Ikorodu Division welcomed year 2025 in style with the Greater Lagos Countdown, a spectacular event that showcased the city’s rich cultural heritage and its forward-thinking drive. The iconic Ikorodu Town Hall was abuzz with excitement as residents gathered to usher in the new year.

In a statement delivered by the Permanent Secretary for Tertiary Education, Mr. Waheed Kasali, Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu outlined his bold vision for 2025, emphasizing resilience, progress, and youth empowerment. The governor highlighted Lagos’ remarkable achievements in 2024, including the launch of transformative projects like the Red Line Rail and the expansion of Blue Line operations.

“As we step into the new year, we remain committed to our vision of a greater Lagos, where every resident has access to opportunities, infrastructure, and services that enhance their quality of life,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated. “We will continue to prioritize the needs of our young people, providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed and thrive in a rapidly changing world.”

The event featured a star-studded lineup of Nigerian superstars, including Saheed Osupa, Remi Aluko, and Dare Handsome, alongside rising talents such as Tysleek, Dhpee the Dragon, and Hypeman Afo and Still-young. Traditional music performing groups from Ikorodu and Igbogbo, as well as DJs like Rayce, kept the tempo alive with a perfect blend of local rhythms and uptown beats.

Beyond the stage performances, attendees enjoyed an array of attractions, including talent hunts for undiscovered rappers, VIP bars, and a feast of food and drinks. The countdown event was a testament to the city’s vibrant spirit and its ability to bring people together in celebration.

Builder Olusesan Daini, Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to youth development. “This event reflects the rare spirit and resilience of Ikorodu,” Daini said. “Ikorodu is not just a city; it is an energy and a promise we hold dear.
