Nigerian Children Cultural Heritage (NCCH) set to host a twin celebration in Lagos State, Lagos at 57 tagged “Royalty Edition” and Children’s Day Celebration. During the Press Conference at the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture, it was revealed that this special event will be a vibrant showcase of Lagos rich cultural heritage. Not only that, but it’s also a fantastic way to celebrate the young ones.

Mrs. Oluwakemi Fanimokun, the founder of the Nigerian Children Cultural Heritage, expressed her enthusiasm for the event. She highlighted the primary aim of NCCH, which is to train and encourage children while promoting the cultural heritage and sustaining the indigenous languages. This year’s celebration holds even more significance as it is a twin celebration; the Lagos State Anniversary and Children’s Day.

She reeeled out activities for this twin celebration which are; Inter School Competition, Eko Challenge, Oral Poetry Competition, Clothes Exhibition, Dance Competition, Food Exhibition, Cooking Competition, Fashion parade, Art and Craft Exhibition, and a Drum Exhibition.

The founder of the Nigerian Children Cultural Heritage, shared that the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Art, and Culture has officially endorsed the twin celebration of Lagos at 57 and Children’s Day. The celebration is taking place on Tuesday, 28th of May, at the Adeyemi Bero Hall, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

Mrs. Oluwakemi Fanimokun commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his approval of the Yoruba week, which will be celebrated annually in September.

In addition to promoting the culture, Mrs. Fanimokun highlighted the importance of preserving our mother tongue. She mentioned that they launched a campaign called ‘Say Yes to Mother’s Tongue’ a few years ago. This campaign aims to encourage the use and appreciation of the native languages.

Not only does this celebration promote the culture, but it also provides numerous opportunities for children to showcase their talents.

Mrs. Fanimokun also mentioned the need for partnership and sponsorship. It’s heartwarming to hear that whatever support they receive goes directly towards benefiting the children. This shows their dedication and commitment to the well-being and development of the younger generation.

Mrs. Bisi Omojare, the Director of Creative Art, representing the Special Adviser on Tourism, Art, and Culture in Lagos State, emphasized the importance of partnership and collaboration. She mentioned that they partner with individuals and organizations like NCCH that promote tourism, creativity, and culture.

The goal is to create an enabling environment for creatives to thrive and to shift our focus from oil to the creative industry. Mrs. Omojare highlighted that in many countries, tourism and entertainment serve as their main sources of income. So, why not do the same in Nigeria? By investing in the creative sector, we can unlock its potential and establish it as a valuable economic resource.

Preserving the culture is another key aspect of their partnership. They recognized the significance of safeguarding our traditions and ensuring they don’t fade away. By collaborating with NCCH thoy are promoting culture, they aim to prevent the extinction of our rich heritage.

Qudus Olanrewaju, popularly known as Baba Owe, a Yoruba poetry coach, expressed his enthusiasm for teaching children about poetry and the art of chanting. He mentioned that the impact of his teachings will be evident during the children’s presentation on celebration day.
