Residents of Igbo Olomi in Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) are set to benefit from improved infrastructure and enhanced security as the council administration begins extensive channelization works across the community.

The project, initiated by the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), is aimed at addressing the persistent challenges caused by poor drainage, erosion, and stormwater flooding, particularly during the rainy season.

For years, residents have experienced difficulties navigating parts of the community whenever heavy rains occur, as overflowing stormwater and erosion often render roads and pathways inaccessible, disrupting daily activities and movement.

Speaking on the intervention, the council noted that the ongoing channelization works will improve the flow of stormwater, reduce the impact of erosion, and provide a lasting solution to drainage-related challenges affecting the area.

Beyond the environmental and infrastructural benefits, the project is also expected to strengthen security within the community. The clearing of dense vegetation, swampy areas, and overgrown bushes along drainage channels is improving visibility and eliminating potential hideouts for criminal elements.

Residents have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that will enhance accessibility, safeguard lives and property, and contribute to the overall development of Igbo Olomi.

The channelization project underscores the commitment of the Lekki LCDA administration to delivering practical and sustainable solutions that improve residents’ quality of life while fostering safer and more resilient communities.
