A media team identified as The New Dawn Media Team has dismissed reports suggesting that Hon. Kolade Alabi David is contesting for the Lagos East Senatorial seat, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on May 3, 2026, the group clarified that Alabi is not in the race for the Senate but is instead a frontline aspirant for the House of Representatives seat representing Somolu Federal Constituency.
The rebuttal follows the circulation of an online publication alleging a political contest involving Alabi and the current senator representing Lagos East, Senator Tokunbo Abiru.
According to the statement, the report was based on misinformation and a misunderstanding of Nigeria’s legislative structure, noting that the Senate and House of Representatives are distinct arms of the National Assembly with separate constituencies and electoral processes.
“The claim that Hon. Kolade Alabi David is ‘locking horns’ with Senator Abiru is inaccurate. He has consistently made his political ambition clear as that of representing Somolu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives,” the statement read.
The media team emphasized that Alabi’s political trajectory—from his tenure as Executive Secretary, to Vice Chairman, and later two-term Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area, as well as his role as National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON)—has been centered on grassroots development and public service.
It further noted that his ongoing consultations across Somolu are part of preparations toward the 2027 general elections, where he intends to contest for a seat in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
While criticizing the publication for spreading what it described as false narratives, the group urged media practitioners and political commentators to verify information before dissemination to avoid misleading the public.
The statement concluded by reiterating that there is no senatorial contest involving Alabi in Lagos East and reaffirmed his focus on the Somolu Federal Constituency race.
