TO: ALL STAKEHOLDERS AND CONSTITUENTS OF IKORODU FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY
FROM: THE IKORODU DIVISION YOUTH ALLIANCE (IDYA)
1. PREAMBLE: THE VOICE OF REASON
The Ikorodu Division Youth Alliance (IDYA), representing the collective interests, aspirations, and future of the young people across the six Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of Ikorodu Division, has observed with disappointment the orchestrated calls by a few disgruntled individuals seeking to truncate the progress of our Division by opposing the fourth-term bid of Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson (JB).
We state unequivocally: Quality representation has no “expiry date.” In a legislative democracy, seniority and performance are the bedrock of influence. To ask a high-performing ranking member to step down when he is at the peak of his legislative influence is not just political naivety; it is an act of sabotage against the development of Ikorodu.
2. THE RECORD OF “MR. CONSTITUENCY PROJECTS”
While detractors talk, Rep. Babajimi Benson works. His tenure has redefined governance in Ikorodu, moving it from “promises made” to “projects delivered.” Our support is rooted in tangible evidence:
Infrastructure & Road Connectivity
Over 65 Road Projects: Facilitated across the division, including the transformative Offin/Oreta Road (13km), Lucky Fiber Road, and Ori Okuta Road, which have unlocked economic value for thousands of households.
Light Up Ikorodu: The installation of over 4,800 solar streetlights and the donation of 18 transformers, ensuring our streets are safer and our local economies thrive after dark.
Healthcare & Human Capital
80-Bed Mother and Child Hospital (Imota): A life-saving facility that has drastically reduced maternal and infant mortality in the division.
Education: The commissioning of modern classroom blocks (most recently in Isawo and Gbaga in April 2026) equipped with smart boards and 21st-century furniture.
Social Safety Net: The iCare FoodBank, which remains the largest consistent food security initiative by a legislator in Nigeria, feeding the vulnerable, the elderly, and widows.
Youth Empowerment & Innovation
LASUSTECH Stadium: The ongoing construction of a state-of-the-art sports complex to harness the athletic potential of our youth.
Startup Ikorodu: Providing tech hubs, vocational training, and seed funding for young entrepreneurs to thrive in the digital economy.
3. WHY A FOURTH TERM IS NON-NEGOTIABLE
The House of Representatives operates on a ranking system. By returning for a fourth term, Rep. Babajimi Benson—currently the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence—is positioned to clinch even more principal leadership roles.
1. Legislative Weight: His experience in passing landmark bills (like the DICON Act and Electricity Act Amendment) ensures Ikorodu has a seat at the “table of decision” in Abuja.
2. Continuity: Projects like the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) and various ongoing road networks require his seasoned hand to see them to completion.
3. Stability: At a time when Nigeria faces complex challenges, Ikorodu cannot afford a “learning curve” representative. We need a tested hand.
4. OUR POSITION
The Youth of Ikorodu Division are not “tools” for political sentiment. We are stakeholders in progress. We hereby declare:
REBUKE: We soundly rebuke those hiding under the guise of “rotation” to promote mediocrity. Performance is the only currency of modern politics.
SOLIDARITY: The IDYA stands in 100% solidarity with Rep. Babajimi Benson. We will mobilize from Ward to Ward to ensure his return.
MANDATE: We urge JB to ignore the noise of the few and listen to the heartbeat of the many.
Ikorodu is moving forward, and we refuse to shift into reverse gear.
Signed,
Comr Asoro Abubakri Olatunji ACArb for and on behalf of the
The Executive Council,
Ikorodu Division Youth Alliance (IDYA)
For Greatness and Progress.
