In a significant milestone, the Women Empowering Women and Disabled Foundation, led by Mrs. Amope Phillips, has officially opened its new office in Lagos, located at Makoko, Yaba. This new office is poised to amplify the foundation’s mission to support and empower vulnerable individuals, particularly women and persons with disabilities, by providing them with access to resources, skills, and opportunities for economic independence and social inclusion.

The foundation’s volunteer, Oluwafunmilayo Adebayo, highlighted the organization’s mission to provide support and resources to vulnerable individuals.

To mark the opening of its new office, the Women Empowering Women and Disabled Foundation, led by Mrs. Amope Phillips, has intensified its empowerment efforts,” said Oluwafunmilayo Adebayo. “Today, we distributed cash support, grinding machines, sewing machines, and other vital resources to widows, individuals with disabilities, and others in need. One beneficiary was overwhelmed with emotion, crying tears of joy.

Adebayo advised beneficiaries to use the resources wisely, urging them to work hard and make money for their families. She emphasized that the items should not be sold, as they were given to address genuine needs.

The foundation also conducts regular follow-ups, visiting beneficiaries unannounced to monitor progress and provide continuity support. Adebayo shared examples of successful follow-ups, including a disabled hairdresser who remains in business thanks to the foundation’s support.

Hon. Wusu Shakiru acknowledged Amope Phillips’ dedication to helping those in need through Women Empowering Women and Disabled Foundation.

“Amope Phillips is doing her best in terms of empowerment and giving out cash support to the less privileged,” Hon. Shakiru said. “I’ll urge other individuals to support this good work, and I’ll urge the beneficiaries to make good use of what they have been given in order to make sales and also assist others.”

The Head of the Department of Agriculture and Social Services of Yaba LCDA, Mr. Akinola Moshood Olalekan, commended the Women Empowering Women and Disabled (WEWAD) Foundation for opening an office and empowerment program in Makoko Community.

Represented by Comrade Abdulfatai Ajibola Are, the HOD applauded WEWAD’s gesture, describing Makoko Community as a prime area for empowerment and emancipation. He expressed gratitude for the items distributed, noting that they address both immediate and long-term needs of the community.

“The items provided will not only meet the immediate needs of the beneficiaries but also equip them with sustainable means of livelihood, thereby boosting their working tools,” he said.

The HOD, through his representative, sought for more partnership and collaboration with Yaba LCDA, echoing the famous phrase “Please, sir, I want some more” from Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.

Samson Oladosu, popularly known as Bale, President of People Living with Disabilities in Surulere Federal Constituency, has commended Mrs. Amope Phillips, Founder of Women Empowering Women and Disabled Foundation, for her tireless efforts in empowering individuals with disabilities.

Bale expressed his gratitude, saying, “Mrs. Phillips has been doing a great job, and I pray that Almighty Allah blesses her even more.” He highlighted Mrs. Phillips’ dedication to understanding the challenges faced by people with disabilities, saying, “She asks us about our challenges, and anything we call her attention to, she will surely answer through the foundation.”

Bale noted that the Women Empowering Women and Disabled Foundation has donated numerous items to people living with disabilities across most local governments in Lagos State. He advised beneficiaries to make use of the materials provided, urging them not to sell them. “She empowered them, and I believe they will make more profit if they don’t sell it,” he said.

The opening of the new office marks a significant milestone in the foundation’s efforts to create positive change in the lives of vulnerable individuals. With this dedicated space, the organization can expand its services and reach more people in need.
