
Lagos Ministry of Youth and Social Development Honour the 4th Assembly of the Lagos Youth Parliament with Awards and Commendation Letters last night in Ikeja, Lagos. The event was a celebration of their outstanding contributions to the youth development in Lagos State.
In his address, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlede, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development in Lagos State, emphasized the crucial role of the youth in shaping society. He commended their passion and innovative ideas, highlighting their power to drive positive change and make a lasting impact in the community.
Hon. Ogunlede also took a moment to acknowledge the hard work of Mrs. Umar, the entire team, and the ministry in youth development in Lagos State, emphasizing the importance of their contributions. The commissioner urged everyone to celebrate not only individual accomplishments but also the collective strength and unity of the youth in Lagos State.
He reminded the Youths that the effort put into laying one’s bed is reflected in how one lies on it. He encouraged the youth to recognize the value of the process they have gone through, the knowledge they have gained, and the personal growth they have experienced.
He emphasized the importance of the letters of recommendation given to them. He urged them to recognize the value of these letters and emphasized that their destiny is in their own hands. While some may disregard or misuse the letters, He encouraged to see it as a solid foundation and a tool that can open doors for their future success.
Drawing from his own experiences, Hon. Ogunlede shared that if he had been given such an opportunity at their age, he would have achieved even greater heights. He urged them to believe in themselves and their abilities, emphasizing that nothing is impossible when they have the right mindset.
Hon. Ogunlede reminded the youth that they are the ones who can truly push themselves forward. He encouraged them to stay focused, disciplined, and determined. The commissioner assured them that while they may face challenges, they should not let anyone hinder them from pursuing their dreams.
In his concluding remarks, he highlighted the significance of three key elements: transparency, integrity, and accountability. He emphasized that these qualities are essential for success. According to him transparency helps individuals navigate through challenges, integrity earns the trust and respect of others, and accountability ensures personal growth and development.
The commissioner urged the audience to carry these principles with them as they move forward in their lives. He stressed that transparency, integrity, and accountability should be integrated into everything they have learned over the past years. Hon. Ogunlede wished the youth the best in all their future endeavors and encouraged them to reflect on their next steps, as they have added another achievement to their list.
Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Social Development, urged young people to actively participate in politics to bring about positive change in Nigeria. Addressing the concerns of the youth, he emphasized the need for them to utilize their talents and expertise to make a difference. Hon. Orekoya highlighted the accomplishments of the outgoing fourth assembly, praising their remarkable contributions to their respective communities.
He also acknowledged the frustration expressed by the youth during the recent elections, which led to the #EndSARS movement. He urged young people to harness this anger and work towards improving the nation. Hon. Orekoya emphasized the importance of not wasting this opportunity and encouraged the youth to take their responsibilities seriously.
Pharm Toyin Oke-Osayintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos Ministry of Youth and Social Development, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the 4th Assembly for their successful tenure. She commended them for their dedication in carrying out projects that are benefiting the society.
In her message, she emphasized that this is not the end for the 4th Assembly, as the future holds great things for them. She encouraged them to utilize the experience gained from their time in the Lagos Youth Parliament at every step of their journey. Furthermore, she assured them that the doors of their office are always open for advice and suggestions, as they continue to contribute towards a greater Lagos.
The Permanent Secretary expressed her pride in the accomplishments of the 4th Assembly and wished them continued success in their future endeavors.
Hon. Olubusola Odunuga Deputy Chief Whip highlights the achievements of the 4th Assembly of Lagos State Youth Parliament; First public engagement- Youth Dialogue, Medical outreach at Ikeja and Lekki in conjunction with Lagos State University Medical Students, Donation of first aid boxes to some secondary schools in Lagos state, Career talk for secondary schools in Lagos, 4th townhall meeting across the 5 division, and Donation of borehole in a riverine community in Agbowa.
Dr. Somefun Esther, a Gender and Reproductive Health Analyst at UNFPA, Congratulates the 4th Assembly for a successful tenure. She highlights their significant contribution to the development of the Lagos Youth Policy document. As one of the youth stakeholders involved in shaping the policy, Dr. Somefun emphasized that UNFPA remains committed to its partnership with the Lagos Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
Dr. Somefun recognizes the importance of the youth’s progress in Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole. She affirms that the well-being and empowerment of young people are top priorities for UNFPA.
