A group, Concerned Leaders and Stakeholders of Ojokoro/Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency, has dismissed claims of a consensus adoption of candidates in Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 02, describing the move as misleading and unrepresentative of the broader party structure.

The reaction follows a widely circulated statement titled “Ojokoro Leaders Adopt Olotu, Olabinjo As Consensus Candidates,” dated April 17, 2026. The group, in a counter statement issued on Saturday, said the publication failed to reflect the true position of many respected leaders and party faithful in the constituency.

According to the stakeholders, while individuals and factions are entitled to express political preferences, it is “undemocratic and misrepresentative” to portray such endorsements as a unanimous decision of the Ojokoro Apex leadership.

They stressed that the purported consensus arrangement did not receive the backing of all recognized leaders, adding that several key stakeholders were neither consulted nor present at the meeting where the decision was allegedly reached.

The statement further alleged that the names of prominent figures were used without their consent to legitimize the claim. Those mentioned include the Party Chairman, Hon. Jelili Oseni; Council Chairman, Barr. Mrs. Adenike Rosiji; Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Olabinjo; Alhaja Fatimo Balogun, who is reportedly out of the country; Hon. James Osatuyi; Hon. Rasheed Makinde; Hon. Ahmed Omisore; and Hon. Adebayo Salvador.

Describing the development as troubling, the group said the unauthorized use of names raises concerns about the credibility and intent behind the initial publication.
They emphasized that consensus in a democratic setting must be built on broad consultation, transparency, and the genuine agreement of all critical stakeholders, rather than selective endorsements presented as collective decisions.

Reaffirming their commitment to the principles of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the group warned that attempts to impose candidates under the guise of consensus could deepen divisions within the party, disenfranchise loyal members, and undermine internal democratic processes.

The stakeholders called on party leaders at all levels, including federal authorities, to disregard the earlier publication and instead rely on transparent and inclusive mechanisms in determining party direction. They also urged adherence to free, fair, and credible primaries as the foundation of democratic legitimacy.

While cautioning party members and the public against being misled by premature political declarations, the group maintained that Ojokoro LCDA remains a politically diverse constituency where no single faction can speak for all.

They concluded by reiterating that there is no valid consensus endorsement in Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 02 and reaffirmed their commitment to unity, due process, and credible leadership within the party.
