
Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba has delivered a major infrastructural milestone in Ijede LCDA with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Legislative Chamber and Customary Court, marking a significant step forward in strengthening democratic governance, enhancing judicial efficiency, and advancing community development at the grassroots level.
The Chairman described the project as a major step in strengthening democratic governance at the grassroots. She noted that the edifice symbolizes the council’s commitment to good governance, accountability, and improved service delivery.
She explained that her administration had pledged to enhance the working conditions of all arms of government within the LCDA and provide a conducive environment for effective operations.
She added that the modern building was a fulfillment of that vision and would support quality deliberations, cooperation, and the overall strengthening of local democratic institutions.
The Chairman also reflected on the historical significance of the location, acknowledging the contributions of the first Executive Chairman, the late Yeye Fausat Adeola Gbadebo, as well as past leaders whose efforts helped shape the LCDA.
She expressed confidence that the new structure would inspire unity, productivity, and more effective decision-making among councillors and members of the Customary Court.
Gbadebo-Alogba highlighted her administration’s achievements since her re-election. She stated that in education, the council introduced free summer coaching for pupils, distributed annual Back-to-School packs, and organized an annual Spelling Bee Competition.
She pointed out that the council completed and furnished the new Legislative House and Customary Court, constructed and rehabilitated multiple school buildings, fenced and painted school premises, and improved sanitation facilities across various primary schools.
She further noted that the LCDA intensified environmental sanitation and carried out extensive drainage desilting and channelization across numerous streets and communities.
She mentioned that the health sector also received attention through free breast and cervical cancer screenings in partnership with the Ani Okonkwo Foundation, the introduction of e-birth registration, and campaigns on sexual and domestic violence awareness.
Addressing staff welfare, she stated that the council supported various training programmes and upgraded the staff clinic with functional medical services.
She added that the administration enhanced community development through events such as the first Ijede Tourism Day Celebration, along with support for annual cultural festivals.
She explained that transportation within the LCDA improved significantly with the launch of LAGFERRY services connecting Ijede to Falomo, CMS, and Ebute-Ero, as well as the provision of mini-buses for intra-community movement.
Gbadebo-Alogba expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for policies that strengthened local government autonomy and increased the council’s ability to utilize its allocations effectively.
She also thanked Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for continuous support under the THEMES+ Agenda, which she said contributed to infrastructural growth within Ijede LCDA.
She acknowledged the project’s initiation by the late Council Manager, Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola, and commended the commitment of the current management team led by Mrs. Ayodele Michael Oluwakemi.
Earlier, Vice Chairman Hon. Kareem Kabir described the commissioning as a milestone in the strengthening of democratic structures at the grassroots.
He said the building represents accountability, community service, and an improved environment for legislative engagement.
Traditional, political, and judicial leaders also delivered remarks during the event. The Obateru of Egbin Kingdom, HRM Oba Abdulhakeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, expressed admiration for the quality and standard of the new edifice and offered prayers for continued development.
The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, commended the project and emphasized its importance to justice delivery and community growth.
Former Deputy Governor Prince Abiodun Ogunleye described the project as a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the Chairman’s dedication to development.
Former Deputy Governor Otunba Femi Pedro praised the steady progress recorded in Ijede and encouraged the Chairman to sustain her developmental efforts.
GAC member Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun applauded the achievement and urged the state government to support road development in Ijede.
APC State Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi officially commissioned the building, describing it as a major milestone in the LCDA’s developmental journey.
Senator Musiliu Obanikoro emphasized the need for proper maintenance so that the benefits of the project would be preserved for future generations.
Former Bariga Chairman Hon. Kolade Alabi appreciated the Federal Government for enabling true local government autonomy and noted that the improved system has made Ijede’s development possible.
Lagos House of Assembly member Hon. Aro Moshood praised the Chairman’s achievements across multiple sectors and assured residents that more projects were underway.
Council Manager Mrs. Oluwafemi Martins delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the Chairman’s dedication and expressing gratitude to all dignitaries who attended the ceremony.
Dignitaries present included Justice Kazeem Alogba, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, HRM Oba Abdulhakeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Mrs. Oladunjoye, Mrs. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, Senator Kingsley Adeseye Ogunlewe, Senator Ganiu Olanrewaju Solomon, Dr. Jokomba Adeola, Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje, and R. O. Jayesimi.
The commissioning of the Legislative Chamber and Customary Court Building marks a new chapter for Ijede LCDA. Residents expressed optimism that the modern facility would enhance legislative operations, strengthen governance, and accelerate development across the community.
