Rep. Babajimi Benson, the representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, on July 10th hosted the Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy. During their visit, Benson took the fellows on a tour of the Ikorodu Division Hall of Fame, situated within the Ultra-Modern Ikorodu Town Hall. The Hall of Fame showcases the illustrious sons and daughters of Ikorodu who have made significant contributions in various fields.

The fellows were taken aback by the numerous personalities featured in the Hall of Fame, many of whom they had not previously known were from Ikorodu. The exhibit highlights individuals who have excelled in different realms, including business, sports, public service, and law. Rep. Benson was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023, joining other notable individuals who have made their mark on Ikorodu Division.

He also showcased the newly completed E-Learning Centre he facilitated in the Ikorodu Town Hall premises, which will soon be open for public use, greatly benefiting students and young people in Ikorodu.

Following the tour, Rep. Benson welcomed the fellows to his constituency office, where he shared his journey into politics. He spoke about his early days, his struggles, and his eventual rise to prominence. Benson highlighted his achievements, including facilitating 80 roads and other numerous projects in Ikorodu, which the fellows found impressive. He also shared the story of his historic victory in the House of Representatives primary, where he emerged victorious despite initial doubts about his chances.

The Chairman House Committee of Defence used the story of Manny Pacquiao, the renowned boxer, to drive home the importance of perseverance. He told the fellows about Pacquiao’s journey from a young boy in his hometown, struggling to make a name for himself, to becoming a world-class boxer. Pacquiao’s determination and refusal to give up, even when faced with challenges, were key to his success. Benson noted that Pacquiao won eight championships, and his story serves as a testament to the power of hard work and dedication. He emphasized that if Pacquiao had given up during the challenging moments of his career, he would not have achieved greatness.

Benson drew parallels between Pacquiao’s story and the fellows’ own experiences, encouraging them to pursue their dreams relentlessly. He noted that just like Pacquiao, who was looked down upon but went on to achieve greatness, the fellows too can overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. He also highlighted Pacquiao’s journey into politics, where he won elections and became a respected leader.

In her remarks, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, the Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, praised Benson for his humility, accessibility, and dedication to the development of Ikorodu. She noted that whenever people are asked about Hon. Jimi Benson in Ikorodu, there is no one who has a bad thing to say about him.

She commended Benson for being very humble and willing to correct any misconceptions about Ikorodu, literally an Ambassador of Ikorodu. Agbaje-Okunade also highlighted Benson’s influence in the House of Representatives, where new members often consult him to learn the process of legislative work. She emphasized the academy’s mission to equip young minds with leadership skills and noted that Benson’s work in Ikorodu serves as an inspiration to many.

The fellows had the opportunity to ask questions on various topics, including security, representation, and legislative matters. Benson’s responses provided valuable insights into his work as a representative and his vision for Ikorodu’s development.
