
The 5th edition of the Surulere Sports City Fiesta took place on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in celebration of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila’s 63rd birthday. The event featured a series of novelty games, including football matches between various groups such as COP vs Women Leaders, CDC/CDA vs South South/Artisan, APC Youths and Central vs Ndigbo & Arewa, NURTW Lagos Vs RTEAN Lagos, ABATI FC vs NYCN Surulere, and APC LGA & Ward Executives vs Local Government Executives/Legislative and SSAs.
Other games played included basketball, table tennis, chess, scrabble, draft, and Ayoo Olopon.
According to the Convener, Hon. Ibrahim Alli-Balogun, former Special Assistant on Youth Affairs to Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, said the program aimed to bring together stakeholders from various sectors to utilize the sports facilities in Surulere and promote unity.
The event has been an annual occurrence since 2020, with this year’s edition being the fifth. Hon. Alli-Balogun noted that the program has been extended to the state level this year, following requests from participants who felt that the event should not be limited to Surulere alone. Surulere has been known as a sports city, with over 10 mini stadiums constructed by Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
The event provided an opportunity for participants to interact, have fun, and exercise their bodies. Hon. Alli-Balogun expressed gratitude to all participants and supporters, highlighting Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila’s contributions to sports development in Surulere. He appreciated everyone for being part of the journey and supporting Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila.
