
The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL) has launched another edition of Scholarship and Bursary program aimed at supporting indigent students in tertiary institutions from Ikorodu. The program is open to students studying across public tertiary institutions in Nigeria, as long as they are indigenes or residents of Ikorodu.
She emphasized the importance of education in fostering peace and development, stating that “for peace to reign, education is a key factor.” She highlighted the plight of many young people who are unable to access education due to financial constraints.
Hon. Akinshola explained that the scholarship program, dubbed “S-H-E-E-R,” offers financial assistance to deserving students. The program is divided into three phases, with awards ranging from N50,000 to N200,000. Students who qualify for the N200,000 scholarship will receive support to complete their academic programs, provided they maintain their starting grade.
She noted that IDPIL launched the scholarship program in 2022 and has since successfully implemented three editions. The organization aims to empower young people and provide them with opportunities to pursue their educational goals. With the program set to close out the quarter at the end of June, many students are expected to benefit from the initiative.

Prof. Abiodun Fatai Abatan, the Consultant explained that applicants must be students of public universities in Nigeria and indigenes of Ikorodu Division or verified residents with a LASRRA card or a letter of confirmation from a recognized community authority. A rigorous screening and selection process will be conducted, including an aptitude test to validate academic records.
According to Prof Abatan, the program aims to provide financial support to deserving students, while also focusing on mentoring and training them for long-term impact. “We are focused not only on providing financial support but also on mentoring and training these students for long-term impact. This is about shaping a generation that can contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
He emphasized IDPIL’s commitment to transparency and fairness in the selection process, building on past successes while expanding outreach. He also praised the visionary leadership of Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya for his dedication to educational upliftment, noting that his leadership has turned the scholarship scheme into one of IDPIL’s most impactful interventions.
