Following the demise of the former Iya Oloja general of Igbogbo Kingdom, Chief Mrs. Rachel Asabi Obayomi, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA has appointed Chief Mrs. Mojisola Oyesanya as the Acting Iya-Oloja General. This decision was made in conjunction with the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and key traditional institutions in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, earlier today, 18th of November.
Mrs. Oyesanya’s appointment aims to bring stability to the market community, ensuring continuity of market affairs, maintenance of order, and upholding values of inclusivity and economic growth. The Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs provided guidelines for the transition, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between Governmental bodies, traditional institutions, and community leaders.
The Director of Lagos State Market Development, Mr. James Kakawa, has provided clarity on the transition guidelines for the Iya-Oloja General position. Following the passing of the incumbent, the Deputy Iya-Oloja General assumes the acting role, allowing the Market Association time to propose a new candidate.
According to the Director, the association’s executive body selects a prominent member and regular attendee of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Market Advisory Council. This selection process ensures continuity and stability within the market leadership.
Kakawa explained that the new Iya-Oloja General must meet specific criteria, including prominence within the Market Association and regular attendance at the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Market Advisory Council. Other criteria may apply, as determined by the Market Association’s executive body.
The Local Council Development Area (LCDA) reviews the proposal, considering input from traditional institutions, as outlined by Mr. James Kakawa. The council’s leadership holds the final decision to approve the appointment, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive approach.
The meeting, held at the Council Secretariat, saw the participation of the Executive Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Legislative Arm of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Management staff, Supervisors, and representatives from the Olubeshe of Ibeshe Kingdom, the Fidmolu of Elepe Kingdom, officers from the Department of State Services in Lagos state, and the Nigerian Police Force Ikorodu Division alongside other stakeholders.
