Barr. Olatoun Adekoya, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA chairmanship aspirant, marked the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th with female students of Keme Balogun Senior Secondary School in Ibeshe. The event, themed “Girls Vision for the Future,” aimed to inspire and empower young girls to become leaders and change-makers.
During the celebration, Barr. Adekoya distributed sanitary pads to the students, addressing a critical need and promoting menstrual health. This gesture underscores her commitment to supporting the education and well-being of girls in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA.
Addressing the students, Barr. Adekoya emphasized the importance of education, self-confidence, and resilience. She urged the girls to:
“Believe in yourselves, your abilities, and your dreams. Never let anyone dull your sparkle or make you feel inferior. You are the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers. Embrace your uniqueness, support one another, and strive for excellence.”
She also encouraged the girls to pursue careers in their various chosen fields, to become a better person in the nearest future.
Barr. Adekoya’s dedication to empowering girls dates back to 2021 when, as the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikorodu Branch, she led a team to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child with students of Community Junior Secondary School, Baiyeku. Notably, this was before she considered running for public office, demonstrating her genuine passion for uplifting the girl child.
