
In a bid to foster grassroots leadership and mentorship, the Golden Integrated Empowerment Foundation has launched the Empowering Young Leaders (EYL) program in Ikorodu Local Government and five
LCDAs. This initiative, powered by Rep. Babajimi Benson, member of the House of Representatives for Ikorodu Federal Constituency, aims to equip primary and secondary school students with essential leadership skills.
Program Objectives:
– Develop leadership capacity among secondary school students
– Foster community service, volunteering, and social responsibility
– Provide mentorship and guidance for personal growth
– Enhance student engagement and academic performance
The EYL program is structured into three phases:
_Phase 1: Leadership Development (3 months)_
– Leadership principles and values
– Goal-setting and time management
– Communication and teamwork
– Problem-solving and conflict resolution
– Community service and volunteerism
_Phase 2: Mentorship and Project Implementation (3 months)_
– One-on-one mentorship with experienced community leaders
– Group coaching and peer support
– Community project planning and implementation
– Regular progress monitoring and feedback
_Phase 3: Networking and Sustainability (2 months)_
– Networking with local organizations and stakeholders
– Resource mobilization and fundraising
– Scaling and replicating community projects
– Alumni network and continued support for scholarship
Program Benefits:

The program is open to primary and secondary school students aged 11-21, with a free application process. It will run from October 2024 to November 2025.

Similar programs, such as the European Union and UNICEF’s Education and Youth Empowerment initiative, have shown significant impact in promoting education and leadership among young people.
