
In a bid to establish a secure and tranquil environment for the inhabitants of Kosofe Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, convened a meeting on peace and security with key stakeholders in the community on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
In his keynote address, the Council Chairman urged residents, particularly the youth of Kosofe, to abstain from engaging in violent protests or any criminal activity. He emphasized the diligent efforts being made by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rectify past grievances.
Barr. Ogunlewe implored all stakeholders present at the meeting to prioritize security awareness within their respective communities, underscoring the repercussions of the 2020 Endsars protest.
The Honorable Member of the Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Ganiyu Okanlawon Sanni (OKLA), urged all individuals to remain at home during the protest and advised parents to dissuade their children from participating. He highlighted the President’s commitment to fostering a more prosperous Nigeria for all its citizens.
The Area Commander, Area H Command, Ojota, ACP Odutana Rotimi, cautioned against congregating on the streets while reiterating the legality of peaceful protests. He implored would-be demonstrators to peacefully move to designated venues to voice their concerns before dispersing.
Other stakeholders, including the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, Mr. Babatunde, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ogbooro Gbenga, and the Chairman, League of Imams, Alhaji Oludegun, also expressed their support against the impending protest. They appealed for calm and dialogue to get Nigeria into the desired state.
The meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including religious leaders, youth representatives, market men and women, and community leaders. They all pledged their support for peace and security in the area.
