In a bid to maintain peace and tranquility in IRU/Victoria Island LCDA, Princess Rasheedat Abiodun Adu, the Executive Chairman, held a strategic meeting with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) IRU/VI Branch on July 29.

During the meeting, the Leader of the Union, Ugba, assured the Chairman of their support and readiness to prevent any form of destruction or violence in the area. This commitment was made in response to the anticipated public demonstration in the state.

The following day 30th of July, Princess Adu took her peace and security campaign to the streets, sensitizing traders, market women, Arewa, and residents on the importance of maintaining calm and tranquility. In her address, she appealed to the community to reject protests, citing the destructive consequences of the 2020 EndSars protest, which resulted in the vandalization of government properties, including new BRT buses.

Princess Adu emphasized that while protest is a constitutional right, it should be exercised without disturbing others. She urged the community to be patient and calm, promising that the Government will not allow miscreants to disrupt the peace of the people. “On behalf of the Government of Lagos State, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I appeal to you all to please talk to your relatives and Let’s be patient” she said.

She also appealed to the community to give the Government of President Tinubu a chance, noting that it is still in its first year and has taken bold steps that will benefit the masses. “By God’s grace, soon we will see the positive results,” she added.

Leaders of various groups present at the meeting supported the Chairman’s appeal, urging their members to heed her words for their own benefit and not allow themselves to be used for personal gain. The meeting was part of the Chairman’s efforts to ensure that the IRU/Victoria Island LCDA remains a peaceful and secure environment for all residents and businesses.
