… Assures them of immediate and long-term assistance

A severe rainstorm struck the communities of Oke Egan CDA (Zone 2), Okunuga CDA, and Bola Ahmed Estate in Ibeshe on Friday, May 24th, causing widespread destruction. The Epic Centre of the Devastation was in Offin-Ile, Oke Egan CDA, Zone 2. The storm led to significant damage to buildings, fences, roofs, and electrical poles, plunging many households into darkness and disarray.
Tragically, the storm also claimed the life of the only child of a family in Okunuga CDA, deepening the grief within the affected community.
Yesterday, Monday, May 27th, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Bldr. Olusesan Mayokun Daini, along with his dedicated team, visited the impacted areas to assess the extent of the damage and to offer their condolences and support to the affected families.
During the visit, Builder Olusesan Daini expressed profound sympathy for the losses and assured the residents of immediate and long-term assistance. He emphasized the local government’s commitment to supporting the rebuilding efforts and ensuring that essential services are swiftly restored.
“The devastation caused by this rainstorm is heartbreaking, especially with the loss of a young life,” said Bldr. Daini. “We stand with the affected families and are committed to providing all necessary assistance to help them recover. Our team is already working on plans to restore power, repair damaged structures, and provide any other needed support.”
In response to the disaster, the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA is coordinating with relevant state and federal agencies to mobilize resources for the affected communities. The immediate priorities include:
1. Restoration of Electricity: Working with electricity providers to repair downed electrical poles and restore power to the affected areas.
2. Structural Repairs: Providing support for rebuilding and repairing homes and infrastructure damaged by the storm.
3. Emergency Relief: Distributing relief materials, including food, clothing, and temporary shelter, to displaced families.
4. Counseling and Support Services: Offering psychological support and counseling to families, particularly those who have suffered severe losses.
Furthermore, the Executive Chairman emphasized the importance of community efforts to prevent future flooding and environmental damage. He encouraged residents to desist from blocking drainage systems with dirt and waste, stressing the need for regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure free flow in all drainage channels. “Keeping our drainage systems clear is crucial to preventing flooding and minimizing the impact of such natural disasters. I urge everyone to take responsibility for their surroundings and contribute to a cleaner, safer environment.”
