
The Lagos State Supervisors and Special Advisers in the Ikorodu Division (LSSIKDF) recently organized a fantastic week-long event that culminated in an amazing award night and an enlightening lecture on Thursday, February 15th.
Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Rep. Babajimi Benson, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, Builder Deola Banjo, Builder Olusesan Daini, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, and several others were honored with awards for their outstanding contributions to society.
Dr. Saheed O. Ibikunle, a member of LASUBEB, gave the keynote Speech which focused on the critical intersection of leadership and positioning in politics.
Dr. Ibikunle emphasized the importance of effective leadership and strategic positioning in shaping the direction of nations, addressing societal challenges, and fostering progress for the greater good.
The speech also delved into the concept of positioning in politics. Dr. Ibikunle explained that positioning refers to how individuals or groups position themselves within a political landscape to effectively achieve their goals.
The audience at the LSSIKDF Award Night gained valuable insights into how these principles can drive meaningful change and progress in societies. The event provided a platform for leaders, supervisors, and special advisers to come together and discuss the pivotal role of leadership and positioning in politics.
Mayor Deen Sanwoola, the Executive Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Parking Authority, shared valuable insights on life after service and the upcoming Local Government election. He emphasized the need for careful planning and realistic expectations.
During his lecture, Mayor Sanwoola acknowledged the common misconception that life after service is always rosy. He stated, “I am sorry I will be disappointing you tonight because life after service is not all that rosy.” He encouraged the Supervisors to use the remaining year and a half of their service to tidy things up and ensure a smooth transition into post-service life.
Mayor Sanwoola also addressed the eagerness of some individuals to contest in the local government election, which is still two years away. He expressed concern over the lack of reasons behind their aspirations, contrasting it with how the business world operates. He advised one individual, “If you want that honorable attached to your name, go and print posters, paste them around. If you don’t have money to get a form, by the time the form comes out, tell them you stepped down. They will start calling you honorable.”

Highlighting the challenges of assuming office at the grassroots level, Mayor Sanwoola emphasized the importance of planning. He revealed that the failure rate of assuming office is approximately 90% at this level. He extended his advice to supervisors as well, stating that not having spent money to reach their current positions does not exempt them from the need to plan. He urged them to consider the possibility of serving only one term and work towards achieving significant accomplishments within that time frame.
Mayor Sanwoola acknowledged the pressure faced by public officials from those around them, who often make demands without considering their income limitations. He warned that it is essential to prioritize and manage expectations effectively, ensuring that achievable goals are set.
Otunba Amid Oduborisa, Chairman of the Occasion, during his speech he emphasized the pivotal role that Supervisors play in the governance structure. These individuals are appointed by the Chairman with the approval of the Councillors and are entrusted with the responsibility of supervising the day-to-day affairs of their assigned departments. They act as the Council’s eyes and ears in these areas, ensuring smooth operations and representing the Council.
Chairman Oduborisa highlighted the diverse and impactful responsibilities of Supervisory Councillors. They serve as the political heads of their designated departments, overseeing daily operations, representing the Council, providing directives to Heads of Departments on policy matters, and coordinating relationships between departments.
Furthermore, Supervisors play a crucial role in presenting departmental proposals to the Council and the Finance and General Purposes Committee. Their expertise and guidance contribute significantly to the effective functioning of the local government.
Prince Abiodun Ogunleye highlighted the need for strategic positioning to effectively address the challenges and drive progress in the region.
He emphasized that positioning goes beyond mere political affiliations or titles. It involves understanding the unique needs and aspirations of the people of Ikorodu and leveraging that knowledge to develop effective strategies and policies.
Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, expressed concern about the growing disrespect towards kings. In a heartfelt statement, he emphasized the importance of respecting kings as the heads of every community and kingdom, particularly in Yoruba culture.
Oba Adeboruwa highlighted that respect is a fundamental value in Yoruba culture and should be given to those who deserve it, especially kings who play a vital role in maintaining the traditions and harmony of their communities. He called upon all Westerners to embrace and uphold this cultural value by showing reverence to their kings.
He also extended his prayers, wishing that Almighty God would be with everyone.
Ashipa Kaoli Olusanya, He urged everyone to see themselves as one big family, regardless of the groups they belong to. Olusanya emphasized that unity within the party is crucial for the repositioning of Ikorodu as a better place to reckon with.
Builder olusesan daini highlighted that a census is a crucial tool for planning and development. by accurately counting the population in ikorodu division, it enables the government and policymakers to make informed decisions regarding infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other essential services.
Arakunrin Kazeem Showemimo, Chairman of the Lagos State Supervisors and Special Advisers Ikorodu Division Forum (LSSIKDF), In his address, he expressed his delight in celebrating with everyone and highlighted the strong bond among local government bosses, cabinet members, traditional rulers, and party stalwarts in Ikorodu Division.
He extended his appreciation to all the guests present, particularly the donors and council chairmen who made the occasion a reality. He also acknowledged the presence of esteemed scholar Dr. Saheed Ibikunle and Mayor Deen Sanwoola, whose attendance boosted morale and uplifted the spirits of everyone present.
He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to his colleagues at LSSIKDF for entrusting him with the role of Chairman. He assured them that he would never take their support for granted.
