Pepc foundation gave out relief packages to 700 LAWMA sweepers in Ikorodu Division at the Igbogbo stadium on the 18th December, 2023.

The founder of the organization Barr. Luqman Akinsanya organized the event to help the less privileged, widows, elderly and others, as well as show love to the LAWMA who clean the streets of Ikorodu.

“These people are my brothers , my friends and my people , I love them and call them the vanguard of the state , because they are awesome people, I see them in the rain, in the sun, early in the morning, late at night sometimes , they are amazing people , I see them growing up I know how important it is when we sweep , we know what cleanliness is, and we know what it is globally”.

“Their impact in Lagos is very important and I appreciate them every year, we have been doing it for three years and I don’t want to stop, just to keep encouraging them and give them that sense of belonging, that they deserve and making sure they know that they are a part of us. I started with 250 people at a particular location and last year I was able to cover about 400 of them and this year, we are covering the whole of Ikorodu . Moving forward , I am thinking of extending to the whole state. With the help and support of the Lagos state government, I think I should be able to do that “.

“For the Lawma I will say they continue to do their works diligently and we will continue to encourage them to do their job better. By next year I am planning to do one that is bigger than this, we plan to bring in medical check ups, the once that have issues, we can take care of them . The relieve package contains garri, rice , vegetable oil, seasoning and so on. 60% of the fundings are self funded as a Barrister of law and an IT consultant, friends and well wishers who see the greatness in what I do as well helps out”. Said the founder.

Present at the event was the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun kasali, and the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA Builder Olusesan Daini and the Ikorodu Bois.

Oba Kasali said “this is an awesome event the whole world should emulate, this is a manifestation of what we have been teaching that we should always be our brothers keeper. The initiator of this program have said it all in his speech that he deliberately targeted this group of people working to keep our environment clean. The whole world we are talking about climate change, we are talking about the need for us to maintain a good environment .

“These are key people working for us in that regard and for us to continue to make them to do this, they must be sustained and encouraged in our own little way as the government can not do it alone. That is why my brother here is trying to help them get something to do with while celebrating this Christmas. I believe they should not loose hope and they should know that they are appreciated and they should continue doing what they are doing .”

The chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku BLDR. Daini Olusesan Mayokun extended his profound gratitude to the founder of the organization and expressed the fact that they are working side by side with LAWMA, to ensure that they are well protected and their well being is taken care of.
