“Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA legislative arm held public hearing on harmonization bill for security joint task force yesterday, 27th of July. The bill, which was established by the Igbogbo-Baiyeku Executive arm and presented to the Legislative Arm for consideration, aims to bring together stakeholders from various communities in Ikorodu division to solve insecurity issues collectively. The public hearing was attended by various stakeholders.”

Hon. Nurudeen Alimi, Council Leader of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA Legislative Arm, opened the public hearing on the Ikorodu Division Joint Security Task Force Bye-Law with a speech that addressed the issue of insecurity in the area. Hon. Nurudeen Alimi highlighted the general state of insecurity in the Division, which is depicted by incidents of land disputes and land grabbing, cultism, and gangsterism from groups like Badoo, restless youths, unplanned communities and estates, loose boundaries with Ogun State, home invasions, various types of robbery, carjacking, sexual assault, drug addiction, pipeline vandalism, and related crimes, kidnapping, and terrorist activities.

He also said “We derive the power from the constitution of federal republic of Nigeria and through the state Assembly laws.
The local government bye laws corroborate federal and state assemblies laws.
The security joint taskforce therefore, absolutely plays complementary roles to police and other security agents of Nigeria.”

He also quoted the Nigeria constitution (Section 37 of Nigerian Constitution) provides that:
” The privacy of citizens, their homes, correspondence, telephone conversations and telegraphic communications is hereby quaranteed and protected”.

Builder Olusesan Daini, the executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, said that the council leader has said that it is an executive bill, meaning it is a bill established by the executive of the council to the legislative to make it a law, because it is their own right and power to make law. Therefore, it must be sent to them to make sure it is of public view, acceptance, and of interest for the entire community. The hearing is happening in three other local developments area in Ikorodu division. Ikorodu local government had their public hearing two weeks ago, and the remaining other local governments will be having theirs in some days time.

“The council believes that if Igbogbo-Baiyeku is securing its community, other communities in Ikorodu division should do the same. Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA is working to bring all communities in Ikorodu division together to solve insecurity issues. The peace and security committee, which meets on a monthly basis, is responsible for the council’s efforts to address insecurity issues.”

He concluded by saying “Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA is committed to ensuring that all members of the community work together to address security issues, and that the establishment of the joint task force in alignment with the Nigeria police position of community policing is a great way to achieve this.”

Hon. Mathew Arowolo, the Majority Leader of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA legislative arm, highlighted the major contents of the bill aimed at addressing the issue of insecurity in Ikorodu division. He noted that the legislative arm is currently doing part of the activities of the third reading, and that whatever the council is doing in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA reflects in Ikorodu division as a whole.

He believes that history will be kind to the administration regarding the issue of security. Hon. Arowolo praised the aggressiveness of the council under the leadership of Builder Olusesan Daini in addressing the issue of security of life and properties. He stated that the bill has been finalized, and that the objective of the bill will help the security force to pass information to places far from them.

Stakeholders in attendance also contribute their quota to the bill.
