Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has officially assumed responsibility for the newly commissioned Ijegun-Egba, Liverpool, Isalu-Ajido, Marina Badagry, and Ilashe Jetties from the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development. On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the Permanent Secretary, ESV (Mrs) Olayinka Patunola Ajayi MNI, represented by Deputy Director, Special Projects Engr Oladipupo Sobande, handed over the jetties to LASWA for effective and efficient management.

The commissioning of the jetties is aimed at improving transportation in Lagos State, reducing traffic congestion, and creating job opportunities for residents. The Lagos State Government has been working to develop water transportation infrastructure in the state, and the handing over of the jetties to LASWA is a significant step towards achieving this goal.

ESV (Mrs) Olayinka Patunola Ajayi MNI expressed her confidence in LASWA’s ability to manage the jetties effectively and efficiently. She stated that the move was aimed at improving water transportation in Lagos State and creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. She also urged LASWA to ensure that the jetties are properly maintained.

The Deputy Director, Special Projects Engr Oladipupo Sobande, emphasized the importance of the jetties in improving the state’s economy. He stated that the jetties would provide an alternative means of transportation for residents and reduce the pressure on the roads. He also urged LASWA to ensure that the jetties are managed effectively and efficiently.

The Lagos State Government has been investing in water transportation infrastructure to reduce traffic congestion and improve the state’s economy. The commissioning of the jetties is a significant step towards achieving this goal. With the effective management of the jetties by LASWA, it is expected that there will be an increase in water transportation in Lagos State, leading to a reduction in traffic congestion and an improvement in the state’s economy.

    I applaud the LASWA management under the leadership of Mr. Damiloa Emmanuel for the great job he is doing in that sector. However, the team needs to work on some of the existing jetties, like Topo jetty where the building aimed at housing the passengers had fallen and the environment needs to be cleared and made tidy for passengers and visitors to the facility.
    More so, I wish to commend him for taking serious, the enforcement of safety measures by all the water way users and the prompt response to calls especially when there are emergency call for rescue of victims of boat mishap or other areas where assistance is required from the agency.
