
The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Prince Abdul-Lateef Adedayo Ladega, has distributed food packs and cash support to widows and other vulnerable residents as part of a sustained welfare initiative aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The programme, which benefitted about 140 residents, is part of a monthly intervention designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship and improve the living conditions of vulnerable groups within the community.
Delivering the Chairman’s message, Vice Chairman of the council, Hon. Babalwale Alogba, said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to supporting residents beyond infrastructural development.
He noted that the council remains dedicated to complementing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, also in line with the Chairman’s SEED Agenda, through people-centered programmes that directly impact the lives of citizens at the grassroots.
“Our goal is not just to build roads and infrastructure, but to ensure that the people feel the impact of governance through continuous support and empowerment,” Alogba stated.
The Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Yusuf Gbadebo Lawal, emphasized that the initiative is driven by the chairman’s “prosperity for all” mantra and anchored on the SEED Agenda, which focuses on Security, Education, Enhanced healthcare, and Development.
He explained that the programme prioritizes widows, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable residents, adding that it has been structured as a continuous monthly exercise.
“This intervention is part of our broader development strategy. While we pursue infrastructural growth, we are equally committed to providing palliatives that support the wellbeing of our people,” Lawal said.
Also speaking, the Leader of the Ikorodu Legislative Arm, Hon. Wasiu Babatunde Shotomiwa, commended the chairman for staying true to his developmental blueprint, noting that the SEED Agenda continues to drive impactful policies in the local government.
In his remarks, APC Chairman in Ikorodu Central, Alhaji Waheed Animashaun, described the programme as commendable, stating that it has been consistently implemented over the past nine months.
He added that the initiative, popularly referred to as “stomach infrastructure,” has greatly benefited the elderly and vulnerable, with widespread appreciation from the community.
Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude for the gesture.
One of them, Suara Rahmat, appreciated the chairman for remembering the elderly and less privileged, noting that the support would go a long way in alleviating hardship. She also acknowledged President Tinubu for enabling grassroots leaders to carry out such impactful programmes.
Another beneficiary, Omolara Aleshinloye, described the intervention as timely and prayed for continued blessings for the chairman.
Similarly, representative of the People living with disabilities commended the chairman for inclusiveness, noting that the food packs and financial support have provided relief to many.
The Renewed Hope food support initiative continues to gain recognition as a grassroots-driven effort supporting the broader objectives of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
