In a remarkable shift from the conventional, the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) hosted Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) on the waterways, offering them a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and ambience of the Lagos coastline during their Brown Bag Series visit to the agency.

The Brown Bag Series is a structured engagement platform designed to provide Fellows with direct access to leadership across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) through interactive roundtable sessions. The initiative seeks to deepen participants’ understanding of governance systems, ministerial mandates, and policy implementation processes.

The Managing Director of LAGFERRY, Hon. Ladi Balogun, took the Fellows through the history and evolution of water transportation in Lagos State. He highlighted the significant milestones achieved by the agency over the past six years, attributing its progress to the unwavering support and commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu toward transforming the Lagos waterways.

“We cannot overemphasize our appreciation to Mr. Governor for the successes recorded by LAGFERRY and water transportation in Lagos today. His deliberate efforts to strengthen the agency’s capacity have led to unprecedented milestones, including the movement of over four million passengers by 2026, up from just over forty thousand in 2020. We currently operate across seventeen terminals and jetties, serving twenty-seven routes across all divisions of the State, and have expanded our fleet from four vessels in 2020 to twenty in 2026,” he stated.

Balogun further emphasized the agency’s strong safety record, noting its strict adherence to established safety protocols. These include the mandatory use of lifejackets by all passengers, comprehensive insurance coverage on all routes, regular training for boat captains, and routine maintenance of vessels.

The visit featured a memorable cruise aboard the MV Adimu Orisa barge, departing from Five Cowries Terminal, Falomo. As the Fellows sailed along the coastline, they enjoyed scenic views of Lagos’ iconic landmarks, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
