Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in partnership with WaterAid, has commissioned and handed over solarized water facilities across several communities, including Arobiona, Ayegbami Irepodun in Isiu, Agbede Olosugbo, and Farm Settlement Primary School in Odogunyan, as part of efforts to improve access to clean and sustainable water supply.

The commissioning ceremony was led by the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Mayor Ameen Olawale Ibrahim Apanisile, who reaffirmed the council’s commitment to improving access to clean and sustainable water supply for residents.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman emphasized that the project represents a major step toward addressing water scarcity and promoting better hygiene and public health across the benefiting communities.

He noted that the adoption of solar-powered technology ensures a reliable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective water supply system.

He further noted that WaterAid has been a worthy and reliable partner over the years, having positively impacted numerous communities across Ikorodu North LCDA.

He appreciated the organization for its continued support and commitment to grassroots development, while assuring residents that more developmental projects are on the way.

A representative of WaterAid, speaking at the event, disclosed that each of the commissioned water projects has a capacity of 16,000 litres and is powered by solar energy.

According to him, the facilities are designed to ease access to potable water, reduce the challenges of water scarcity, and promote improved hygiene practices in the benefiting communities.

He highlighted the importance of community participation in maintaining these facilities. Mayor Apanishile charged Community Development Associations (CDAs) and school authorities, stating, “It is now your responsibility to look after these facilities.”

Hon. Mathew Adesanya, Vice Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA expressed delight at the completion of these project, describing it as a milestone for overall well-being of the communities.

He echoed the Chairman’s call for local ownership, urging residents, CDAs, and school authorities to maintain the facilities to ensure their long-term benefit.

During an homage to the Eweye of Isiu, Oba Olukayode Raji, the monarch emphasized the critical importance of water, describing it as essential to human survival and daily activities.

He expressed deep appreciation to WaterAid for bringing the project to Isiu, while also commending the Council Chairman and other officials for their roles in making the initiative a reality.

The Principal of Agbede Senior School lauded both WaterAid and Ikorodu North LCDA for the intervention, noting that access to clean water is vital in a school environment for drinking, sanitation, and overall well-being. He described the project as a significant boost to both students and staff.

The newly commissioned solar-powered water facilities will serve Arobiona Community and Ayegbami Irepodun Community in Isiu, Agbede Olosugbo, and Farm Settlement Primary School in Odogunyan.

Residents, community leaders, and stakeholders present at the event expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.

They noted that the project will greatly enhance public health, support daily living, and improve the overall quality of life across the benefiting communities.

The water facilities handover was attended by Council Leader Hon. Bose Benson, other legislators, Hon. Olakanmi Tijani SLG, Supervisors, Party Stakeholders, CDC members, among others.
