Stakeholders, political leaders, and community influencers converged at The Exclusives Hall, Ikorodu, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, for the I-Heroes Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Public Discussion, where the need for stronger political representation and strategic leadership took center stage.
Themed “Amplify: Ikorodu Division’s Stake in Lagos Politics – Amplifying Our Strengths, Weaknesses and Potentials and Sorting the Path of Glory,” the event provided a platform for critical conversations on the division’s role in shaping the political landscape of Lagos State.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Barrister S.O.K. Shillings traced the historical and political evolution of Lagos State, highlighting the structural imbalances in representation affecting Ikorodu Division. He noted that despite its growing population and strategic importance as a residential hub, Ikorodu remains underrepresented in key political structures.
Referencing the composition of the Lagos State House of Assembly and federal representation, Shillings pointed out disparities in allocation, stressing that Ikorodu, despite its size and contribution, has limited representation compared to other divisions. He called for a more equitable system that reflects current population realities and developmental needs.
The keynote speaker further emphasized the importance of unity, political awareness, and deliberate participation in governance, urging stakeholders to reposition Ikorodu as a formidable force in Lagos politics through coordinated efforts and strategic engagement.
In his address, the President of I-Heroes, Majolagbe Olanshile, highlighted pressing challenges facing the division, including insecurity, infrastructural deficits, and youth unemployment. He called for improved collaboration among security agencies to tackle cult-related violence and land grabbing, while also urging government authorities to prioritize critical road infrastructure, particularly the Bola Tinubu Road linking Igbe Laara in Igbogbo LCDA, which he described as being in deplorable condition.
Olanshile also stressed the urgent need for youth empowerment, noting that rising unemployment has contributed to social vices. He called on political leaders and institutions to create sustainable opportunities that will engage young people productively.
The discussion segment featured notable contributions from panelists, including Omoba Hammed Aroyewun, who emphasized the need for visionary and strategic leadership. He advocated for the emergence of leaders who are diplomatic, intelligent, and capable of driving real impact, criticizing the trend of misaligned youth representation and calling for more meaningful inclusion of capable young individuals in leadership roles.
Other discussants echoed the importance of collective responsibility, unity, and effective power management, stressing that collaboration among political actors remains key to achieving lasting progress in the division.
The well-attended event was marked by active participation from attendees, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing the political and developmental interests of Ikorodu Division.
The AGM concluded with a renewed call for unity, strategic planning, and sustained dialogue among stakeholders to ensure that Ikorodu secures a stronger and more influential position in Lagos State politics.
In attendance were Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye, Hon. Ameen Olawale, Hon. Hammed Aroyewun, and Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, who was represented by the Council Leader, Hon. Babalwale Alogba, as well as distinguished members of iHeroes, among others.
