The media office of Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo has issued an official statement addressing recent public commentary questioning his legislative performance since assuming office in June 2023.

In the statement, the lawmaker’s office emphasized that while constituents have the democratic right to demand accountability, public discourse must be guided by verified facts and a clear understanding of the constitutional responsibilities of elected representatives.

According to the statement, Hon. Ogunleye’s first term has focused on strategic facilitation of development projects, educational advancement, infrastructure advocacy, and grassroots economic empowerment within Ikorodu Constituency I.
Clarification on Legislative and Executive Roles

The office explained that the Nigerian constitutional framework assigns different responsibilities to the executive and legislative arms of government.

While the executive arm, headed by the Governor and implemented through ministries and agencies, is responsible for executing projects and delivering infrastructure, members of the legislature focus on representation, law-making, oversight, and budget advocacy.

As a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ogunleye’s role includes articulating the needs of constituents, participating in legislative debates, ensuring accountability in government spending, and advocating for projects to be included in the state budget.

The statement noted that Lagos State legislators do not control project execution budgets or directly construct infrastructure but instead work through collaboration and advocacy with executive agencies to bring development to their constituencies.

Legislative Leadership
Hon. Ogunleye currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where he contributes to policy initiatives aimed at aligning Lagos State’s development strategies with global sustainability standards.

The media office added that the 10th Assembly has passed over 467 resolutions addressing social, environmental, and economic development across the state.

Infrastructure and Community Development
The statement highlighted several infrastructure interventions facilitated by the lawmaker, including the construction of approximately 1.7 kilometres of interconnected roads in the Owutu axis, covering Femi Olasanoye, Dayo Akinyemi, Banjo, and Alhaja Olaribigbe streets.

It also cited ongoing collaboration with the Lagos State Public Works Corporation for road maintenance across the Ikorodu metropolis.

In the area of electricity access, the lawmaker reportedly facilitated the installation of a high-capacity transformer in Itele Community and secured approvals for additional transformers in communities including Odogunyan, Erikorodo, Isiwu, Oke-Oko, Oba Sekumade, and Agric-Ikorodu.

Solar street lighting projects have also been implemented in several Community Development Associations (CDAs), including Oloye, Oba-Olaide, Mojolagbe, and Elepe Estate, with additional installations planned for Ekiti CDA and Akasolori/Golden Paradise Estate.

The office also noted Hon. Ogunleye’s intervention in matters relating to the demolition of houses in the Agric area, where he reportedly ensured that the concerns of affected residents were escalated to relevant authorities.
Education and Youth Development

In the education sector, the lawmaker has sponsored GCE and UTME forms for indigent students annually while facilitating admissions for qualified constituents into institutions such as Lagos State University and Lagos State University of Science and Technology, as well as the School of Nursing.

To encourage grassroots sports, professional table tennis equipment was donated to five primary schools, while intervention efforts also helped facilitate the reopening and functionality of Odonla Primary School to reduce the need for pupils to travel to neighbouring communities for classes.
Economic Support and Welfare

The lawmaker’s office further highlighted several economic empowerment initiatives, including the launch of the OGA Loan Scheme — a ₦10 million interest-free loan programme aimed at supporting market women.

Additionally, ₦50,000 grants were distributed to 50 indigent women, while over 3,500 food packs were provided to vulnerable households as part of palliative support programmes.

The statement added that a further ₦5 million support package was later introduced for market women, bringing the total financial intervention to ₦15 million.
Hon. Ogunleye also reportedly facilitated employment opportunities for more than 100 constituents within federal government agencies.
Community Engagement and

Cultural Support
The lawmaker has maintained regular engagement with community groups, youth organisations, and religious bodies while supporting traditional festivals such as the Magbo, Liwe, and Eluku festivals to preserve Ikorodu’s cultural heritage.
In 2025, he also donated ₦5 million to the Ikorodu Development Association (IKODASS) to support community development projects and the annual Ikorodu Oga Day celebrations.

Human Rights Advocacy
The statement also referenced the lawmaker’s participation in legislative intervention efforts that led to the resolution of an alleged wrongful detention case involving a constituent, Mr. Alfred Babatunde Abiodun.

Commitment to Responsible Representation
The media office stressed that many of the interventions carried out by the lawmaker were not widely publicised because they were considered part of his constitutional responsibilities rather than political campaigns.

It reaffirmed Hon. Ogunleye’s commitment to transparency, constructive dialogue, and continued collaboration with government institutions to deliver meaningful development to Ikorodu Constituency I.

The statement concluded by encouraging residents and observers to verify the listed achievements, emphasizing that the lawmaker remains focused on responsible representation and measurable impact for the people of the constituency.
