Over 40 qualified law graduates from Ikorodu Division received a significant financial boost on Friday as the Jimi Benson iCare Foundation awarded a ₦200,000 grant to each beneficiary ahead of their 2026 Nigerian Law School admission.
The presentation ceremony took place at the Constituency Office of Rep. Babajimi Benson along Ebute-Igbogbo Road, Ikorodu, with education stakeholders, community leaders, and proud family members in attendance.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Olajumoke Benson, who represented her husband, Rep. Babajimi Benson (MHR, Ikorodu Federal Constituency), stated that the initiative is a personal intervention funded from his private resources and not from government allocations.
She explained that the grant was created in response to the financial challenges many students face when preparing for Law School.
“This is purely from his personal resources. We understand that many students seek support when it comes to funding their education, especially Law School,” she said.
Describing the gesture as a way of giving back to the Ikorodu community, Mrs. Benson encouraged the beneficiaries to remain focused and ambitious despite challenges.
“The reward for hard work is more work. You have completed a major step by graduating from the university, and now you are proceeding to Law School. You are leaders and future leaders. Where there is a will, there is always a way,” she advised.
Mayor Deen Sanwoola, the Director of iCare Foundation, clarified that the financial support is a grant and not a scholarship. He explained that the grant structure allows for adjustments in the future to accommodate inflation and prevailing economic realities.
Also present at the event was the Education Secretary for Ikorodu Division, Alhaji Taiwo Odumbo, alongside other dignitaries.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, AbdulRaman Adebanjo expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing the grant as a transformative opportunity for aspiring legal practitioners within the community.
Another beneficiary, Tolulope Gift, noted that the financial support would ease the burden of Law School expenses and pledged that the beneficiaries would strive to make Ikorodu proud.
She added that they hope to one day give back to society in a similar manner and graduate with distinction.
