Following numerous complaints brought to the attention of the Executive Chairman regarding incidents of bullying in schools, he directed the Council’s Education and Library Services Department to take decisive action.

The reports included cases of student-on-student bullying, concerns from parents about the treatment of their children in school, and instances of misunderstandings between students and teachers.

In response, the Education and Library Service Department, headed by Princess Eniola Bolajoko Oluwatosin, organized a sensitization programme on the effect of bullying on academic performance. The programme was held at the Lekki LCDA Council Auditorium and brought together students, parents and teachers.

Speaking at the programme, was Dr. Bukola Lawal (a counselling psychologist), she stated that a child cannot learn well in an environment filled with fear or intimidation. She went on to address the issue directly, while advocating for more awareness and finding lasting solutions.

A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of Anti Bullying Ambassadors. Some students were selected and empowered to promote good behaviour in their schools and report cases of bullying when they occur.

Dr. Yemisi Ayemoba, Local Government Educational Authority LGEA Counsellor, also appreciated the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), for taking practical steps to protect the students.

As part of the follow up plan, anti bullying banners will be placed across schools in the LCDA. The Council will also continue with school visits and interactive sessions to ensure that the issue is properly addressed.
