Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo, Member Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency I, has extended warm felicitations to Christian faithful on the observance of Ash Wednesday, marking the commencement of the Lenten season.
In his goodwill message to Christians, Hon. Ogunleye described Ash Wednesday as a solemn and significant day in the Christian calendar, symbolizing repentance, humility, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal. He noted that the 40-day Lenten period offers an opportunity for deep reflection, prayer, and acts of charity.
According to him, “Ash Wednesday reminds us of the need for sober reflection, genuine repentance, and renewed commitment to the values of love, peace, and selflessness as exemplified by Jesus Christ. Let this Ash Wednesday mark the journey from sin to faith, from darkness to light. It is a sacred season that calls for unity, forgiveness, and compassion towards one another.”
He urged Christians to use the Lenten period to pray for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the nation, while also extending helping hands to the less privileged in society.
Hon. Ogunleye further encouraged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, stressing that collective harmony remains vital for sustainable development.
“I pray that this holy season strengthens your faith, renews your hope, and fills your homes with peace and divine blessings. May God grant us the grace to emerge from this season spiritually uplifted and united as one people,” he added.
He concluded by wishing all Christians a fruitful and spiritually fulfilling Lenten season.
