The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited (IDPIL) on Thursday conducted a media tour of its newly constructed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Renal Centre at the General Hospital, Ikorodu, ahead of its official commissioning scheduled for May 7.

The tour offered members of the press an opportunity to inspect the level of work completed and the modern medical infrastructure designed to strengthen critical and kidney care services within Ikorodu Division. Journalists were guided around the facility by the project team, who showcased the various units and highlighted the centre’s operational capacity.

Welcoming journalists and stakeholders, the Executive Secretary of IDPIL, Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, appreciated members of the media for their continued support and partnership. He described the project as a major milestone in advancing healthcare delivery in Ikorodu and hinted at broader plans to expand the hospital’s capacity. According to him, future development initiatives may include the establishment of an orthopaedic hospital and a teaching hospital to further enhance specialized care and medical training within the division.

The newly completed centre comprises a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit and a Renal (Dialysis) Centre tailored to serve patients with kidney failure and other critical conditions. The facility includes dialysis rooms, nurses’ stations, call rooms, consultant and doctors’ offices, a waiting area, a staff meeting room, a distribution board panel, and other essential support units to ensure seamless operations.

The ICU section has a total bed capacity of 22, providing specialized treatment for critically ill patients who require constant monitoring and advanced medical intervention. Beyond patient care, the facility is also designed to serve as a training ground for medical personnel and students, thereby contributing to the development of healthcare professionals in the region.

Speaking during the tour, the Chairman of IDPIL, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, emphasized that the project was a collective effort of all members of the organization rather than an individual initiative.

“This is not a personal initiative but a collaborative effort by all members of IDPIL. Ikorodu is proud to host this kind of advanced medical facility, which will not only provide intensive care but also support the training of doctors and other healthcare professionals,” he stated.

Also speaking, Dr. Kareem Lukman, Director of Clinical Services and Training, who represented the Chief Medical Director/CEO, Dr. Taiwo Hassan, underscored the importance of the centre in strengthening emergency and renal healthcare services in the community.

He noted that the addition of the ICU and Renal Centre would significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce delays in accessing life-saving treatment.
Upon completion and commissioning, the ICU and Renal Centre is expected to ease the burden on residents who previously had to travel outside Ikorodu to access specialized kidney treatment and critical care services.

The project represents a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure and reinforces IDPIL’s commitment to improving the well-being of the people of Ikorodu Division.
