Hon. Abdulwahid Odunuga and his son, Abdul Ganiy Hassan Odunuga, on Saturday, February 1, 2026, celebrated a significant spiritual milestone with a Walimatul Qur’an ceremony for his son and a turbanning ceremony through which he was conferred the Islamic title Otun Akeweje Adini in Lagos.

The event, held at Comprehensive High School, Ajibola Crescent, Alapere-Ketu, Lagos, attracted dignitaries and well-wishers from across Lagos State and Nigeria.

The Walimatul Qur’an marked the successful completion of the Qur’an by Abdul Ganiy Hassan Odunuga, a milestone widely applauded by guests as a testament to the family’s strong moral upbringing and commitment to Islamic values. Hon. Abdulwahid Odunuga was formally conferred the title of Otun Akeweje Adini.

The ceremony was conducted under the auspices of Ar-Rifatul Islamiyyah Arabic and Islamic Academy, Alapere-Ketu, and hosted by Ash-Shaykh Abdurrofii Babatunde Muh’d Awwal Sibgatullah (Sultānul-‘Ulamā’i), the Founder and Director of the academy.

In his address, Hon. Abdulwahid Odunuga expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for the dual blessings. He described the day as deeply fulfilling and a solemn reminder of his responsibility to serve the community.

He pledged to remain steadfast in his commitment to Allah’s path and to sustain the values and service that earned him the honour.

As the new Otun Akeweje Adini, he promised to stand firmly with the youthful members of the association, offering guidance, mentorship, and moral support.

He emphasized that his service would not be limited to the youth alone but would extend to the entire association and the wider community in whatever capacity Allah enables.

He expressed heartfelt appreciation to Alhaji Abdul-Lateef Awojobi, Ojagbade I, Loja of Lukosi Land, Ife, Osun State; Mayor Dele Oshinowo; Mr. Lekan Mutiu, MD, Braterek Nig. Ltd; Mrs. Zeinab Ramos; Barr. Sharaphardeen Idowu.

Reflecting on his son’s achievement, he prayed that Abdul Ganiy Hassan Odunuga would grow in knowledge, good character, and obedience to Allah, becoming a positive influence and a source of pride to Islam. He also used the occasion to encourage parents to continue investing in Islamic education and moral guidance for their children.

The ceremony featured soulful Qur’anic recitations, special prayers, and Islamic exhortations from various scholars. The atmosphere remained spiritually uplifting throughout, highlighting the importance of moral uprightness and selfless service to humanity.
