Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, Member representing Kosofe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has empowered thousands of constituents through the Kosofe Federal Constituency Mega Empowerment Programme which cut across Kosofe Local Government, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA and Agboyi-Ketu LCDA  organized to mark her two-and-a-half years in office.

Speaking at the well-attended event, which drew constituents, party leaders and traditional rulers, Hon. Ogbara presented a detailed account of her stewardship, describing her legislative journey as one firmly anchored on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Reflecting on the mandate she received in 2023, the lawmaker disclosed that she has executed 33 key interventions aimed at economic empowerment, social welfare and sustainable development across the constituency. She highlighted the disbursement of a ₦100 million empowerment grant targeted at women and youth of Agboyi-Ketu, Ikosi-Isheri and Kosofe, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in grassroots prosperity.

Hon. Ogbara noted that her interventions have placed strong emphasis on human capital development. According to her, initiatives such as the WEWIN national project for female entrepreneurs, financial literacy programmes and vocational training schemes have been implemented in partnership with institutions including the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka.

She also revealed that several constituents were sponsored for specialised blue-collar training in Abuja, acquiring technical skills in areas such as air-conditioning maintenance and generator repairs.
Beyond economic empowerment, the lawmaker underscored her commitment to social advocacy and youth development.

She cited sustained anti-drug abuse campaigns in schools, her participation in the African Union conference on ending Female Genital Mutilation, and the successful hosting of the Ogbara Heritage Tour, an initiative designed to expose children of constituents to the rich history and cultural heritage of Lagos State.

Hon. Ogbara described the tools and equipments as “seeds of opportunity.” She encouraged recipients to put the items to productive use, stressing that the empowerment reflects confidence in the capacity of constituents to improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the development of Kosofe.

Looking ahead, Hon. Ogbara assured constituents that her next phase of interventions would prioritise healthcare, education and food security. She specifically announced plans for the construction of a Green Farm House aimed at promoting agricultural innovation and sustainability within the constituency.

“Our best days are ahead of us,” she said, expressing optimism about a future where every child of constituents in Kosofe can dream and thrive without limitations.
In her closing remarks, the lawmaker expressed appreciation to her husband, Alhaji Lukman Ogbara, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for their support.

She also paid tribute to her mentor, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, while reaffirming her commitment to the collective development of Lagos State and Nigeria.

A wide range of empowerment items were distributed to beneficiaries at the Mega Empowerment Programme, aimed at boosting economic activities and improving livelihoods across the constituency.

The equipment distributed included solar-powered electric stoves with two free pots, mini buses, tricycles—with special consideration and benefits extended to Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs)—as well as cars presented to party loyalists in recognition of their support and service.

Other items provided were POS machines, Pop corn machines, makeup kits, barbing kits, hairdryers, sewing machines, deep freezers, grinding machines, popcorn machines and various mechanical equipment, alongside tools for artisans to enhance productivity in their respective trades.

Beneficiaries also received generators, motorcycles, startup kits and direct cash support to help stabilize and grow their businesses.
In addition, Pepsi-branded startup trade equipment was distributed, comprising coolers stocked with drinks for beneficiaries, with assurances of follow-up support to ensure sustainability and continued growth of the small-scale enterprises.

The empowerment programme also extended support to education, with laptops presented to students to aid learning, research and digital skills development.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commended the Chairman of the House Committee on Women’s Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, for her outstanding performance and commitment to effective representation. He noted that beyond occupying the seat, she has refined it by introducing fresh ideas and promoting inclusivity through her legislative engagements.

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted Hon. Ogbara’s sponsorship of the Girl Reform Bill, describing it as a strong reflection of her passion for women empowerment and social reform. He said the bill has continued to draw positive attention and underscores her role as a lawmaker deeply committed to uplifting women and addressing societal challenges.

Describing her as a woman of action, the governor noted that Hon. Ogbara has consistently used her contacts and resources to benefit women and her constituents. He expressed confidence that her initiatives would bring about meaningful change that would positively shape communities and produce better citizens.

Sanwo-Olu added that Hon. Ogbara’s activities and legislative focus align fully with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in the areas of social inclusion, empowerment and poverty alleviation.

In the same address, the governor called on APC Local Government Chairmen to work harder at the grassroots by mobilising party members to participate actively in the ongoing APC membership registration exercise. He stressed that strong mobilisation would not only support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu but also strengthen the party’s chances ahead of future elections.

He noted that sustained grassroots engagement would be beneficial to the party and enhance the prospects of Hon. Kafilat Ogbara’s return, ensuring continuity in quality representation and development-driven legislation.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa applauded Hon. Ogbara for making a strong statement through the massive empowerment of constituents.

He described the occasion as a double celebration, coming a day after she was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Yeye Sewa of Lagos by the Oba of Lagos.

According to the Speaker, the empowerment programme stands as a clear example of good representation, adding that beyond constituency interventions, Hon. Ogbara has also been performing creditably in her legislative duties at the National Assembly.

He further urged the people of Lagos to embrace the All Progressives Congress (APC) by participating actively in the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise.

Specifically addressing the people of Kosofe Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Obasa called on them to continue supporting Hon. Ogbara, noting that her visible achievements are evidence of her commitment to the welfare of her constituents.

Also speaking at the event, a member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Chief Akanni Seriki, applauded Hon. Ogbara for what he described as a laudable empowerment programme.

He commended her performance, stating that she had done well and deserved recognition, while also appreciating party members for their steadfast support.

In his remarks, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, another member of the GAC, noted that the primary duty of a legislator is effective representation within the legislative chamber, a responsibility he said Hon. Ogbara has discharged diligently.

He added that the empowerment initiative further demonstrates her understanding of the needs of her people and her readiness to translate those needs into tangible interventions.

Senator Solomon concluded by applauding Hon. Ogbara for a job well done, describing the programme as a testament to responsive and people-oriented leadership.
