The pioneering Class of 1985 of CMS Girls Grammar School has celebrated its 40th anniversary, marking four decades since becoming the first set to graduate from the then newly established Gov. Lateef Kayode Jakande School.

The milestone celebration brought together members of the historic set to reflect on their shared journey, achievements, and the enduring legacy of their alma mater.
Speaking during the anniversary event, the President of the Class of ’85 Set, Mrs. Taiwo Salvador, described their years at CMS Girls Grammar School as a priceless experience that shaped their character and outlook on life. She fondly referred to the set’s popular nickname, describing them as “the gem that came out of the Chicken House,” a phrase that captures both their humble beginnings and the excellence they have gone on to represent in various fields.

Mrs. Salvador noted that the success story of the Class of ’85 is a clear reflection of the vision of the late former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, whose education policies expanded access to quality schooling for children from both middle- and lower-income backgrounds. According to her, the opportunity provided by the government at the time helped to bridge educational gaps and laid a solid foundation for many lives.

The anniversary celebration was also an opportunity to honour individuals who played key roles in organising the event and in shaping the class’s formative years. The Chairman of the 40th Anniversary Celebration Committee, Miss Kehinde Oluwadimu, who also serves as the Vice President of the Class of ’85 Set, expressed appreciation to all members and supporters who contributed to the success of the celebration and to initiatives aimed at making a positive impact on the school.

Several members of the set were recognised for their commitment and support, including Miss Omotiefe Abolagba, Bunmi Busari and Yetunde Olaoke from the United Kingdom, Miss Ebby Momoh, Tope Awoniyi, and Pastor Shola Atere from Ibadan, among others.

In a moment of deep gratitude, the class paid tribute to some of their former teachers who had a significant influence on their academic and personal development. Teachers acknowledged included Mr. Martins, Mr. Oresegun, Mr. Lawal, and Mrs. Abiodun Kasunmu. Special recognition was given to the late Mrs. Kasunmu for her outstanding role and lasting impact on the lives of the students. She was remembered with honour as the mother of the member representing Ikeja II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Kasunmu.

Mrs. Salvador, on behalf of the class, thanked members and supporters from Lagos and beyond for their contributions, goodwill, and enduring friendship over the years. She concluded with prayers for continued unity, good health, long life, peace of mind, and many more years of shared love and camaraderie as the class looks ahead to the next 40 years.
