Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, Member of the House of Representatives representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, has announced the forthcoming Kosofe Federal Constituency Mega Empowerment Programme, a large-scale intervention aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening communities across Kosofe in Lagos State.

Speaking at a Press  briefing attended by party leaders, committee members and community representatives, Hon. Ogbara explained that the meeting was convened to clearly outline the objectives and scope of the programme. She noted that the engagement was necessary to prevent misinterpretation of the initiative and to ensure that constituents hear directly from her about the intent and implementation of the empowerment exercise.

Addressing residents of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA and Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Ogbara extended New Year greetings to her constituents and reaffirmed her commitment to their welfare. She described the people of Kosofe as hardworking, resilient and enterprising, stressing that 2026 would be a year of deliberate action rather than mere rhetoric.
According to her, the Kosofe Mega Empowerment Programme is scheduled to hold on Saturday, January 25, 2026, at the CMD Funplex Centre, CMD Road, within the constituency.

The initiative is designed to support youths, women, artisans, traders and small business owners by providing tools, opportunities and resources that will enhance income generation and drive sustainable growth across the constituency.

Hon. Ogbara explained that the empowerment programme builds on a series of skills-development initiatives she has sponsored over the past year. These include the training of mechanics and artisans under the National Automotive Technicians Association (NATA) in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion in Abeokuta, in preparation for the future of automotive technology. Beneficiaries of this training, she said, will now be empowered with the necessary tools to independently convert vehicles to CNG.

She also recalled the professional makeup training organised for young women at a reputable makeup studio in Victoria Island, as well as the specialised training conducted by Bosch, one of the world’s leading tool manufacturers, for artisans within the constituency. Many of the trained artisans, she disclosed, will receive Bosch tools as part of the empowerment package.

The lawmaker emphasised that the programme is not a routine distribution of items, but a deliberate, data-driven intervention aimed at long-term impact. She explained that beneficiaries were profiled through physical and online forms to assess their skills, age, economic status and experience, enabling the selection of empowerment support best suited to their needs.

“This programme focuses on people who have already acquired skills and those who truly deserve support, including low-income earners and vulnerable constituents,” she said. “By equipping trained beneficiaries with the right tools and support, we are ensuring that skills translate into income, prosperity and shared growth.”

Hon. Ogbara noted that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s 2026 budget vision on shared prosperity, as articulated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that her empowerment drive reflects the broader national agenda of inclusive economic growth.

She announced that close to 1,000 constituents will benefit in the current phase of the programme, assuring those who may not be selected this time that the empowerment exercise will be continuous throughout her tenure. “We have comprehensive data, and empowerment will rotate. Everyone will be reached in due course,” she assured.

The selection process, she added, follows a bottom-up approach, cutting across wards in the three local councils of Kosofe, with inputs from stakeholders including the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), market leaders, religious leaders, political leaders and online community platforms.

Responding to questions on the proposed Special Seats for Women Bill, Hon. Ogbara disclosed that there has been positive progress, with strong backing from the President and the First Lady. She explained that while the initial proposal sought one female senator per state, it was later adjusted to one female senator per geopolitical zone, stressing that the advocacy is driven by collective representation rather than personal ambition.

She also mentioned Items to be distributed under the empowerment programme include solar electric stoves with two free pots, mini buses (with benefits extended to Persons Living with Disabilities), makeup kits, Barbing kits, Deep freezer, tools for artisans, cars for party loyalists, hairdryers, grinding machines, popcorn machines, sewing machines, startup kits and cash support.

She also announced a partnership with Pepsi, which has provided coolers and drinks for beneficiaries, with assurances of follow-up support.

In her closing remarks, Hon. Ogbara congratulated prospective beneficiaries and encouraged all constituents to participate actively in the programme. She reaffirmed her belief that empowering people strengthens families, communities and the nation, expressing confidence that, by God’s grace, 2026 will be a year of growth, hope and positive impact for Kosofe Federal Constituency.
